Oi, everyone! It's me, Ocean, and I'm here with my entry for the newest PMC Contest, "Childhood Heroes"! This time, I bring you a superhero that I made up when I was about 5 or 6 years of age, whom I had deemed "Captain Mushroom". I always thought of him being there when I was asleep, fighting off any villainous plots that tried to harm me. And now, children, it's time for backstory! Woo~

Captain Mushroom was once a normal Crimini mushroom....until the day he became a superhero!

The city of Toyin was rampant with crime: shootings, kidnappings, burglaries; you named it, they probably had it. The government had tried to keep the criminals locked up, but something kept knocking the guards unconscious and letting them out of their cells. They discovered mushroom-like spores in autopsies, and vowed to create a hero that would fight for justice in this riotous city, in the form of a mushroom. Many found the idea preposterous, and laughed at the thought of a tiny little mushroom flying around the city.

One day while working in a laboratory, a man by the name of Agaricus Vermicelli was testing a Crimini mushroom to see if he could get it to become aware of its surroundings like a human would be. All of the tests he performed seemed to not change the state of the mushroom, and the man decided to...wait, was that an arm? The scientist rushed back over to the mushroom, which had begun to grow, bigger and bigger, until it had the form of a human. The mushroom was anatomically correct to a full grown male human, but the skin was leathery and soft, like an actual mushroom. The body and neck were that of a pale-cream colour, and the head was smooth, with a brown colour to the flesh. The mushroom-man looked around the laboratory, and then looked at the scientist. The scientist broke into a huge grin, and held out his hand.

This was exactly the kind of hero the city needed. The scientist knew it.
And so, that's the story of Captain Mushroom! Hope you guys enjoy! Also, if you'd like to see me get to the Finalists, I'd really appreciate it if you would please give this Skin a Diamond, or even give some constructive criticism down in the comments. :) Thanks!

And as always,
Peace, love, and tridents!
