The Stuttgart Psalter originated between 820 and 830 at the monastry
St. Germain-des-Prés in Paris and is therefore a work from the
Carolingian Renaissance. It is considered one of the most important
surviving Carolingian manuscripts.
Charlemagne, the King of the Franks and emperor of the Holy Roman
Empire, set in motion the cultural revival nowadays called the
Carolingian Renaissance. Throughout its time more literature,
writings and art were created. The artist worked exclusively for Charles
the Great or people directly associated with him.
