A Vulpesian is a half fox, half human species that has magic. Many are over 6 foot, and the shortest one ever recorded was 5'3" (until Emmaline)


Emmaline was born to a mixed-species couple, a human woman, and a Vulpesian man. Her parents were both very accomplished guards for the royal castle, but her mother was declared dead after she was deployed for a mission to explore land. Her father, stricken with grief by her death, left his position.

Then, he raised Emmaline up in the cold, snowy mountains, alone, the best he could, with no income, other than the shady jobs and deals he could take from a gang he affiliated himself with. This gang lent him money, expecting it back much later, but never got it. So they began to send goons to get that money he owed. They began to take it out on Emmaline as payment, who was often home alone because of her situation. Her father couldn't do anything when he wasn't home, but when he was, he tried everything to protect her.

Emmaline, still having trouble learning to read and write at the age of 9, was asked to grab the newspaper from the mailbox, but when she went to check, she was greeted with more goons. She struggled to tell who they were due to an eye condition, in which she had become blind, but recognized the red outfitting, so she kicked at them.

Later, she had come home an hour later with a tattoo of the gang's icon on her left shoulder, which upset her father more than he already was. He had been trying to give Emmaline the life he couldn't have, and the gang had finally put the seal on the deal--her life would never be any better because of that tattoo.

As Emmaline grew, she saw her father less and less, but the gang's goons more and more. They gave her birthday gifts, that were really just excuses to make her life worse. She had been forced to live at the gang's base at one point, until her father came with money to get her out, which had turned into 2-3 years of her life. She met her first friend, and best friend, there. His name was Jared, and he was nicer to her than any other person there. But by then, she had developed another problem--she found it impossible to speak in most situations. Selective mutism.

Once she was 12, Emmaline was left at home by herself for the very last time. A few weeks had passed without her father coming home, and she had run out of the little money they had left. So she packed up her things in a small bag she had, and set out to find him. She first stopped at a home in a nice neighborhood, a complete 180 from the slums she had gotten to used to living in. Knocking on the door, she could feel everyone stare at her as she tugged at her scarf.

After a long explanation, Emmaline convinced Jared to help her find her father, and together they set out to find him, which was fruitless, since he had gone missing. This left Emmaline without any parents or money, and no way to make a future for herself independently.

Jared, who had been staging as an elf, reveals he's a shapeshifting species, but he was most comfortable in the Kitzuki kingdom, in his natural form, other than the hair. He offers to help Emmaline out, since he understood her situation, and he was her friend. They became best friends quickly, and Jared could speak for Emmaline, so she wouldn't struggle to speak to people she wasn't comfortable with.

This made her life much easier, as she began to see it turn around. Jared, now 18, and Emmaline, now 17, worked in the castle together. Jared had been quickly working through the ranks of being a guard, while Emmaline quietly followed behind him as his companion. She was often mocked when people thought she wasn't paying attention, and it affected her confidence a lot.

Her and Jared began to have feelings for one another, and they began to date not long after the start of spring. Together they work for peace in the kingdom, and they've taken down a lot of different enemies.
