Beltane is a neopagan holiday commonly celebrated by witches, Wiccans, and pagans alike. Also called May Day, this celebration happens on the first day of May each year and signifies humanity's gratitude for the fertility of the earth and its inhabitants, as well as welcoming in the coming summer. On the Wheel of the Year, Beltane is the direct opposite of Samhain. Despite having a more cheerful perception by outsiders due to the bright colors and easy-to-understand traditions, those who celebrate the day know the veil between worlds is just as thin as it is on Samhain, meaning spiritual communication and paranormal occurrences happen just as often as on Samhain.
Common ways to celebrate Beltane are making a Beltane-specific altar, hosting a big bonfire, rituals that give thanks to the earth and fertility and/or nature deities, self-love rituals, and the most well-known traditions of dancing around the May Pole and crowning a May Queen.
