"You've gotta be kidding me!" Kady grumbled at her servant, "Another dress fitting? That isn't going to happen, and you can tell my parents I said so." The servant nodded quietly, then left the room. Kady fell backwards onto her bed, her long red hair sprawled out across it, and sighed, "I'm done with this prim and proper thing. It's just not me at all." Outside her window, she could see all the chaos of the real world. For once, she just wished she could join them...
That night, Kady jumped out of her bed and quickly changed into something comfortable. She grabbed a knife and chopped her hair off, making it much shorter than before. She grabbed some money and a key to the house, just in case she decided to come back. She doubted that though. Kady sat on the edge of her window and climbed down to the ground. After that, the night just became a blur of black skies and stars.
As the sun started to rise the next morning, Kady found herself at the city's port. She groggily stood up from where she slept and went to look for a place to eat. As she arrived at the closest eatery, a man ran out smiling excitedly. He grabbed Kady by the arm and dragged her with him.
"Where the heck are you taking me?!" Kady said frantically. She heard the restaurant's owner yelling at the man, so Kady assumed he had stolen something. He looked back at her and grinned, "You are gonna be my new copilot!" Kady stared at him. Copilot? The man turned down an alley and took a deep breath. He held out his hand, "Nice to meetcha. Name's Ryan Jackson, best steamship pilot 'round these parts." Kady cautiously shook his hand and mumbled, "Kady."
That's when Kady's new life began.
