Kyon is a normal guy , both on the inside and outside. He doesn't have any special powers ,time travel or anything that makes him stand out. What he is though is Haruhi's anchor. For every over the top idea she has, he will most likely be the one to oppose it when no one else does. To put it simply, he is the Yang to Haruhi Ying. How well he does that is up to debate...
