Maria Quitéria de Jesus(1792-1853) foi uma combatente baiana da Guerra da Independência do Brasil. Desde 1996, é a patrona do Quadro Complementar de Oficiais do Exército Brasileiro e, desde 2018, integra o Livro dos Heróis e Heroínas da Pátria. Em 1821, fugiu da fazenda em que morava com a família e, sob a identidade masculina, alistou-se no Batalhão de Voluntários do Príncipe. Atuou no regimento de artilharia e foi alçada a 1ª cadete pelo general Pedro Labatut. Após a guerra, foi condecorada com a Imperial Ordem do Cruzeiro pelo imperador Pedro I do Brasil,no grau de Cavaleiro, com o seguinte pronunciamento:
Querendo conceder a D. Maria Quitéria de Jesus o distintivo que assinala os Serviços Militares que com denodo raro, entre as mais do seu sexo, prestara à Causa da Independência deste Império, na porfiosa restauração da Capital da Bahia, hei de permitir-lhe o uso da insígnia de Cavaleiro da Ordem Imperial do Cruzeiro.

Maria Quitéria de Jesus (1792-1853) was a fighter from Bahia in the Brazilian War of Independence. Since 1996, she has been the patron of the Complementary Staff of Brazilian Army Officers and, since 2018, she has been part of the Book of Heroes and Heroines of the Homeland. In 1821, she fled from the farm where she lived with her family and, under her male identity, she enlisted in the Prince's Volunteer Battalion. She served in the artillery regiment and was raised to 1st cadet by General Pedro Labatut. After the war, she was awarded the Imperial Order of the Cruzeiro by Emperor Pedro I of Brazil, in the rank of Knight, with the following pronouncement:
Wanting to grant to D. Maria Quitéria de Jesus the badge that marks the Military Services that with rare courage, among the most of her sex, she had given to the Cause of Independence of this Empire, in the diligent restoration of the Capital of Bahia, I will allow her the use of the insignia of Knight of the Imperial Order of the Cruise.
