The detail is nice, but the shading seems to be all value.
I don't see any of your gorgeous colors in there

i wasn't going for bright and hue shifted colours, this was an attempt at a more 'realistic' or gritty type vibe. the colours are meant to be like that to evoke more of a dreary high fantasy look

I notice you mention that in the comments below. I wasn't suggesting using bright colors with tons of hue shifting. Just that realistic shading still requires some hue shifting, although it might not be nearly as smooth.
If the highlights are from a warm source, make the shadows a slightly cooler color, if they are from a cool source, make the shadows slightly warmer. Just make them less saturated.

That's just my two cents though.
