-Journal Entry-
-Day 649-
The day my parents came back for me was the day they died. Almost two years ago. I was a gifted child, but my parents couldn't afford me. So I was left in the basement. I never got the chance to love them, know them. And now, my mind is leaving me before I get to know it. I don't know what to do with my life.
I can barely stay sane. Winter has set in, and all I have is a stack of flashlights. The other day, before the snow fell, I found two of my friends, one dead and the other almost driven to the brink of insanity. I've buried my other friend, Nora, and the friend who I found alive, Melody, is now just as sane as I. Both of us can't eat, but her only defects are neon green hair and hot pink skin. Oh and her eyes are both a deep shade of navy blue. Despite the cold, both of us could very well go nude in negative temperatures. But of course, we are still human and that goes against our etiquette. We still have dignity, unlike some other survivors, who run around sporting nothing. They are the ones who are insane. Most of the world is still very much intact, but no one dares to send rescue teams across the border or overseas. After all, even I don't know what lies beyond my neighborhood.
I still have kept my raggedy scarf, the last present my parents ever gave to me. A day after the shaking stopped, I ventured out, only to find my parents' corpses lying on the ground, ice cold. They had never even gotten out of the house. Our "house" was now only a tittering wooden frame, blackened from ashes. The basement was intact, however. I started suffering from the side effects a long ago, starting from a stiff hand and blurred vision. Now, my vision is perfect and I can continue to move my hand. However, my right hand casts a layer of snow upon everything it touches, so I have trained my left hand to perform these tasks. Agh, here comes another earthquake. Gotta get into the basement.
