This Aperture Science robot is a prototype for the Automated Subjective AI Testing Initiative (or the Automated Testing Initiative, for short). The idea was scrapped do to a lack of funds for the GLaDOS project. As a result of the Automated Testing Initiative being canceled, they resorted to making objective AI robots to replace employees while they went through the tests. One way you can tell that he is from long ago, are the reel-to-reel memory tapes on his front and back.
