Ra was one of the most important gods worshipped in ancient Egypt. He was the sun god and the creator of all other gods and humans. He was worshipped starting in around 2600 BCE and was a major part of ancient Egyptian religious life. In art, Ra was usually depicted as a man with a hawk's head. However, there was a great deal of variation in his depictions. Ra, god of the sun, also had many names, including Re, Pra, Raet-Tawy (a female version of Ra), and sometimes Atun. Ra also had a secret name that anyone who knew it could use to have power over him. However, this precious information about Ra the sun god was not even known to the other gods.
