Ratatosk is the evil squirrel who runs up and down Yggdrasil (the world tree) and carries insults between Nidhogg, the dragon at the bottom, and the oddly nameless eagle at the top. In their rage, the two great beasts slowly tear the tree to shreds. This is exactly what Ratatosk wants, which is weird, considering that if the tree is destroyed, he, the eagle, nidhogg, the nine worlds, the gods, the giants, the humans, and everything else will fall into the void of Ginnungagap.
