In 1945, scientists examining Trinitite at the Alamogordo Test Site, the site that Project Manhattan's Trinity Test occurred, discovered that a strange chemical element existed and then broke down during the atomic detonation. this element is created on the surface of the atom bomb's shell when the nuclear reactions start, but is demolecularized when the atomic energy is released. the top secret "Operation Spartan" is created to extract and analyze the element, named "Predium". Project 1 begins in 1947, with the confirmation of Predium. they used the Operation Crossroads Able test shot to confirm this. multiple sensors are put on the USS Nevada, USS Gilliam, USS Lamson, and USS Saratoga. the Nevada was supposed to be the target ship, but the bomb actually landed over the Gilliam, destroying it's sensing equipment. the Nevada's equipment was able to take adequate readings, showing that Predium does indeed exist.
Project 2 was next. now was the time to extract it. the readings from the Nevada suggest that Predium begins to form when the bomb goes supercritical, so Strength +4.2 Cooling Rods were installed, which would allow the bomb to go supercritical, and then shut down the nuclear reaction, thus preserving the Predium. the test was the Operation Sandstone X-Ray test shot. this was a success. Predium is a brown crystal resembling amber, that grew on the bomb like a thick frost. it was successfully extracted. they later detonated the bomb after the Predium was retrieved.
Project 3 was started with the intentions of experimenting with the applications of Predium. the first, and most important, application was actually found out when a U.S. Serviceman, Sgt. Oliver Lennox, physically touched the Predium. it bonded his hand to the bomb's shell! now was the time to use Predium to it's full potential: P.A.S.T.E, or Prosthetic Attachment, Sophisticated TissuE, an artificial "glue" that would mend metal with flesh. artificial nerves would run through the metal attachments, thus giving the "wearer" the ability to control the metal. the first test subject, given the codename "Tantalus", would have an artificial skeleton mended over his real skeleton (this skeleton excluded the skull) through the skin. the person selected for the Tantalus test was Roger Norton, a Lieutenant who was in charge of the contingency sent to retrieve the Predium. when the skeleton was merged with him, something took over. he started killing the scientists and soldiers with his superhuman strength! the remaining scientists were able to cryogenically freeze him in a stasis pod. the scientists were evacuated, and the soldiers stayed behind to destroy all evidence.
====30 YEARS LATER====
4 teenagers from Fall River, Missouri are dared to sneak into the old abandoned military facility nearby. when they go in, they eventually find Norton, and the only girl in the group, Judy, accidentally unleashes him, where he goes on a murderous rampage throughout the facility, which is actually still secretly in operation, with scientists still trying to figure out how to fix the problem with Predium. after the teenagers run into the scientists, they figure out that Predium is actually the material Hell is made out of, and Atomic Bombs create portals into Hell that close with the energy released by the atomic blast.
with this new knowledge, the teenagers assume that Tantalus is being controlled by a demon, which came out of the portal with the Predium. with that knowledge, they call their local Pastor, Elijah Harris, to come over and exorcise the demon. he says he'll be there immediately, but Tantalus attacks and kills the scientists! the teenagers get away just in time! they now have to wait until Elijah arrives. they get to the armory, where one of the teens, Rodney, gets separated from the rest and grabs a M1 Garand. Tantalus then attacks, and Rodney shoots him in the chest, but it doesn't even stun Tantalus, and he kills Rodney. they run around some more, until they reach the entrance, to find that Elijah has already arrived. they now wait for Tantalus to show himself. when he does, he slowly approaches them. Elijah now attempts to exorcise the demon, and is successful. Tantalus falls down to his knees, and his eyes roll forward. Tantalus, now his original self, says "thank you" before falling to the ground, dead.
when the military arrive, they find the scientists, soldiers, and Rodney dead, but Roger Norton's body turned to ash. then, the demon appears behind them. the screen goes black and all that is heard are gun shots and screams.
then the end credits roll.
i hope you all liked the story, it took me about 2 hours to make, and the skin took about 45 minutes overall, since i made the soldier skin 1 year ago, but never posted it. it was originally supposed to be Chris Walker from Outlast before he went insane, but i just scrapped that idea.
i tried to make the story sound like a 70's horror movie like Friday the 13th or The Exorcist. i tried to make it not too scary, though. i prefer the cheesiness of the logic not making any sense over the gore/gruesomeness.
i made this as a late entry into the Laboratory Experiments Contest, and i don't expect to win, but it's better to participate rather than not to at all. i got the idea from a comic book idea i made 6 years ago about a superhero named "A-Bomb", who used the P.A.S.T.E. to put rocket launchers and guns on his arms. he was supposed to fight in WWII against Zero, the Japanese equivalent of A-Bomb. they were cryogenically frozen for 30 years until they fought in the Vietnam War. Zero had mini-runways built on to his arms, which would launch drones. they were attached using G.O.N.G (Genetically Organized Neural Gradients), a reverse-engineered P.A.S.T.E.
i also based it on Project Valkyrie, which was the Crazy Halloween Costumes Contest from 2015. i also decided to remake the Valkyrie logo last year, so here it is:
