My entry to the PMC Steampunk Contest. I spent a lot of time working on the shading, the way I did with the Wanderer skin.

This is essentially just a sheriff that would fit into a steampunk world, with pistols at his hip, a jacket, cogs sewn onto the back of his jacket, a targeting monocle, and badges on his arms.

I also wrote up a short back-story because I was bored:

Sheriff. A word with a meaning, that can be summed up in an equally powerful word: Justice.

Law-bringers, officers of protection, and slayers of the wicked, every Sheriffs' duty is to protect those that can't from those that can.

George Steelbolt was no different.

He was raised by his father, his mother dying from complications after child-birth. George's father worked as an overseer at an iron foundry, a massive factory of smoke, fire, and pounding metal. Being enclosed in the foundry for so long imprinted a hate of small rooms onto George, and he began to slip out and spend as much time as possible outside as he grew older. Despite any of the downfalls of being raised in the foundry, it was a safe place. Safer that many places, as George learned.

Slipping out of the foundry eventually landed him in trouble. Not with his father, but with a grounded group of pirates, who robbed him blind and beat him within an inch of death. George realized that he was lucky to be relatively safe in the heavily guarded foundry, but others weren't, and he decided what his fate would be. As he reached adulthood, he set out, armed with a big iron on his hip and a satchel of rounds on his belt.

He hunted pirates and criminals for two years, before the Sheriffs caught up with him. They clapped him in irons, and brought him to a prison, to await punishment. The verdict was swift, and unexpected. George was slapped with a small fine and slapped harder with an invitation to join the Sheriffs or face ten years in prison. Needless to say, George received his badge, and the name of the region he would defend.

And defend it he did, earning the name Steelbolt. For, all the criminals he hunted felt was the bolt of steel that stole their life.
