Fingers trembling, the old man pieces together the eyes of his masterpiece. He clicks them into place, and holds up his creation. A brief smile flickers across his face; he has done it, he has. Ever since his wife had died, the old man had felt alone. No children. No family. Alone. The man's profession in life was modest, and he had never really received much respect from others in his community. Feeling forlorn, the man built a cabin deep in the forest, so his peers would not shame him. He hated his job as clock-winder, yet one day the skills he had learned may have saved the last strip of his sanity. An idea fell into his head- if he could not have any human children with a wife, why not make a child himself. And so he began piecing together his masterpiece- a golden child.
Again, the man looks at his golden child. He sighs, grabs a few old shirts, and rips them into pieces. Carefully, he clothes the golden boy with a cloth hat, and hanker chief. Noticing a few pieces of old leather on his spruce desk, the man straps another piece of cloth over where the machine's waist was molded. He straps the leather over a shoulder, and uses the remainders of his scraps to fit gloves and armbands on his masterpiece. He steps back to admire his creation once more. A tear wobbles in his eye, threatening to fall. Wiping away the tear, the man turns his creation over, pressing the small of its back, making it come to life.
The golden machine stands up and looks at the old man. It says nothing for it has no mouth. But there is no need. The old man says, "You are the only thing I could ever be the father of. And I love you." The machine stands there completely still. All of a sudden it grabs at its fathers neck, twisting it at a horrible angle. The man was dead before he could see his creation move.
That night in the town, they say you could not count the screams. A trail of blood and dead bodies were strewn across the entire town. Nobody lived.
To this day, the Golden Wanderer, as they call him, roams the world, attacking travelers, towns, cities, anything that gets in his way. Watch out.
