The Werman (pormanteau of worm + man, spelled like "merman") are a hostile race which dwell beneath the surface. Kingdoms and tribes of wermen have rarely been seen, but are known to exist. It is often said that they kill wandering explorers, miners, and spelunkers alike when encountered. Not only do they roam in caves (which is where they eats precious minerals, turning their eyes into ruby-like gems), but they also swim the dunes, where they will spring from the hot desert sand to catch travelers, and presumably devour them. If you see one, chances are you'll meet a terrible end.
