You might know the word "berserker".
It derives from an Old Norse legend. They were human once, but entered a fury that transformed them into vicious beasts. The legend says they had abnormal strength and wore pelts from wolves and bears that they had found in the woods and killed with their bare hands.
There was one particiular berserker named Víðar. He inherited his name from Víðarr, a god from Norse mythology, and means "forest warrior".
Crescendo wrote a story about Víðar, so please sit back, relax, and enjoy her awesome writing skills!
I hope I can make it to the finals! :)

The tale of Víðar the warrior:
The moon was high in the sky when Vidar took his warriors through the woods. After walking all day, Vidar was eager to rest, and he was sure his men felt the same too.
Around them the shadows twisted in the darkness as they walked, but the travelling men knew no fear; following the trail they had taken a thousand times before. With nothing to indicate danger, they pressed on deeper and deeper, until darkness almost swallowed the lanterns they held. Every now and then, the moonlight would shine through the canopy, illuminating the soft mushy leaves that Vidar treaded through.
Suddenly from nowhere a yelp sounded from behind, and Vidar turned to watch as a group of assailants burst through the trees. The men were cloaked in darkness and Vidar watched helplessly as his brethren drew their weapons far too late. One man who fell dropped his lantern too, and the forest floor became ablaze, disturbing the shadows with red and vivid flames. Halted by the wall of fire Vidar watched helplessly as his men fell beneath his enemies blades. As each man died Vidar grew more and more furious until eventually he drew his axe and leapt through the flames.
As the assailants eagerly pick pocketed the corpses of Vidars men, they noticed suddenly a final warrior jump crazily through the fire. Scrambling to their feet they drew their weapons for a second time that night and watched as the warrior stood straight, his body on fire. An archer quickly sent an arrow flying and it hit the warrior’s shoulder. Instead of flinching though, to their horror, the creature before them howled a blood curdling scream, which was when the assailants noticed the horns sprouting from his head.
In just a few seconds the berserker was upon them, beheading men left and right with a flaming sword. The assailants fell fast, the element of surprise no longer on their side, and as the archer tried to flee an axe was thrown, pinning him against a tree. It was there that he was stabbed through the chest, the last assailant to meet his demise in the flaming woods, and the last to see as the rogue berserker took his revenge.
