William Wallace, most well known today from the 1995 film Braveheart, was an 11th century Scottish rebel fighter, known for defeating an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. He was eventually captured and executed, but his name lived on, and he became the face of Scottish independence. Several years after his death, the poet Blind Harry wrote the epic poem known as The Acts and Deeds of Sir William Wallace, Noble of Elderslie. To this day, he is recognized as a symbol of resistance and strength throughout the world.
This is an image of him from the movie Braveheart.
