3D Ores. Just because Minecraft ores look kind of flat.

New Overworld and Nether ore models aim to enhance your mining experience.

Each block within this pack was designed individually with the aim to keep the new 1.17 ore texture variations while also introducing a subtle 3D aspect to each. This new 3D models add a couple additional pixels above the original vanilla ores and is designed to work in 1.17 and above.

Good news! This pack does NOT require Optifine or Fabric! But you may use them if you wish :)

This pack is complete but will receive updates as needed - I would love to hear back from what people think, how well or not it runs, and how it could be improved!

This pack does not provide the vanilla ore textures (as I have not edited them and these are property of Mojang). If you have a texture pack that replaces these then this pack will still load but the ores may look odd.

Does this work with shaders?
Yes. I've added sample images for how they look in Complementary and BSL.

Please leave a comment if you find issues with a shaders or a specific shader pack.

Does this lag my world out?
Technically no, unless you run a potato. The models are a lot more detailed than Minecraft originals, by an order of magnitude, so it's possible that some machines might have some lower FPS.

If you see dramatic differences in your normal world with this resource pack then please leave a comment!

Can you make this pack work for X resource pack?
Wont know till you try! Post a comment with the resource pack you use and I will attempt to create one (it must be downloadable from planetminecraft, curseforge or similar trusted site).

I will try support the most popular packs but I cannot guarantee that any/all requested will be created.

About the block models

To make this block model creation process easier and faster, behind the scenes I've created some C# tooling that takes the raw ore textures, processes them and outputs the newly created block json model - of which you can read about the process below if you are interested.

How are these models created?
I am glad you asked! This process is completely automated. The reason behind automatically doing this process is to allow in the future for processing of other texture packs automatically :)

1. Get the raw texture png files from minecraft.
2. Creates a negative image from the texture and saves it (Image gallary has example of Diamond Ore and the Negative created).
3. From the negative reads which pixels are set and creates a point map. This process is split into save and read to allow manual editing if needed for testing.
4. From the point map a height map is created, for those pixels that have 4 touching sides
5. The models are created, UV adjusted, and written to disk

Update #4 Ores in the menus are now without the 3D effect : by MrJoshuaT 08/05/2021 10:00:29 amAug 5th, 2021

v1.4. Ores in the menus are now without the 3D effect, as this could cause tooltip lag and depending on screen size and GUI scale had odd interpolation.

Before I commit the effort of doing this myself, since it seems like you have the process of doing this down to a science on your side would you be willing to create "3D" renditions of blocks for variated vanilla ores?

This pack in particular seems to be the most recent with inclusion of deepslate variants and Nether ores.

Indeed all ores have the 3D effect, including nether gold, quartz and copper have the 3D effect.

Complementary shader pack provides the glowing ore effect in the images.

As far as I know you can only make glowing ores in a resource pack is with Optifine and emissive textures, and not with vanilla packs :/. I want to keep this pack available to any loader so I am not sure about adding that in.
