If you are using Optifine, this will improve the CTM, so that it will only connect to other smooth stone blocks.

This is cool! Although, smooth stone slab doesn't connect and that is what I was going for, anyway you can implement the same for the slab?

the current download should work fine on 1.17. the game might say it's incompatible, but the pack will work as expected :)

could this same process of the smooth stone connections be done with glass like the way optifine does it?

Unfortunately not. This vanilla method relies on cullfacing, which doesn't happen on solid blocks, meaning glass can't be connected in vanilla.
