This resource pack works for the latest minecraft versions and below down to version 1.8.9.
(This resource pack requires Optifine to work)

Tamed wolves turn into pugs. Pugs have 2 texture variations.
Wild wolves are updated to look more realistic. Wild wolves have 5 texture variations.

The wolf and pug models are part of the Better Dogs resource pack.
