1908 - The Coal War
An early industrial-military-imperialism pack!
!! Disclaimer: CURRENTLY A HEAVY W.I.P. - most blocks need to be redone - with most of my focus on ROMECRAFT I only very rarely update this pack. !!
SUMMARY:
Welcome to 1908. This pack is focused on many aspects of the late 19th and early 20th century, using aspects of steam technology as well as mining technology from that period to make a historic and themed pack. Many of the textures used in the pack are based on the look and feel of a early 1900's factory or steamship, with wooden-insulated steam pistons, various workers' tools, period-looking building materials, and workbenches/chests based off actual designs found on the USS Olympia (in commission from 1892-1922, the ship I work on as a volunteer). The pack also includes custom armor, featuring, so far: a mining uniform, a Prussian soldier/police uniform, a fancy 1900's suit, and a bronzey diving suit, all of which themed around a 1908 timeframe. This pack also attempts to stay too far from themed materials, allowing it to be used in survival and creative functions. Two versions of this pack will probably be released: One is the primary texture pack featured in this thread, The Coal War. Later, I will release "Olympia", which is a heavily themed pack, based on late 19th/early 20th century ship-building, with every texture based off of the USS Olympia.
BACKSTORY:
An alternative history, based on minecraft: It is 1908, and the major growing Imperial nations of the world are struggling to compete for coal for their growing industrial power. The Great White fleet of America sets to sea, a branch of which is assigned to finding a new source of coal to power the fleet and the country. The discovery of a new land rich with coal sets America to a new path of glory and colonialism, but they quickly find the new island hostile and vast. The island is full of explorers lost long ago: Zombie divers, drowned in their voyage to the depths. Burned skeletons; remnants of the failed expeditions to the volcanic islands. Exploding creatures, unknown to other parts of the world. These threats make the lives of the American coal miners miserable and with only improvised weaponry, the miners find themselves in a struggle known to none other. As the months passed into the mines, a new threat was seen flying overhead in massive zeppelins: Imperial Germany. Using their developing gas and steam-powered Luftschifftruppe, or Zeppelin fleet, the Germans had been searching for a larger coal base for their growing Imperial might. As the two sides competed for the resources of the land, it was not infrequent for the opposing sides' miners and small military units to attack and pillage each other for resources and for a better edge. With neither nation really wanting to start a total war, a kind of cold war between the two nations was fought, dubbed famously as the "Coal War."
[This is highly fictional, duh! Don't whine.]
MAJOR CHANGES:
Items are redone to look like common equipment used by factory workers and coal miners from the 1900s. For example, the wood sword is now a hand drill (known as an auger or bit-and-brace), the stone sword is a pipe wrench (also known as a monkey wrench), the iron sword is a bayonet (not as common to workers, but works) and the diamond sword is a machete. Also, the bow is now an industrial rivet gun.
Armor is as follows, from worst to best: Miner's Outfit (cloth), Fancy Suit (Gold), Prussian Military Uniform (Iron - also kind of looks like an old police uniform), and Generic Diving Suit (Diamond).
All crafting blocks are now historic building materials of the era, and industrial/military-themed.
Switched my Version Numbers to be more appropriate - 2.0 is now 0.20, 1.8 was 0.18, etc..
So.
Beta Version 0.20 Is now released! I only made this update to appeal to some users who use this pack. It is not even close to done, with only about 20% textures the way I basically want them. Almost ALL textures will be retweaked during my breaks from ROMECRAFT. Nonetheless, Coal War is now 1.5 compatible - I think.
if you want, i COULD do an unofficial patch untill you get a chance to update. i could also make an industrial craft patch aswell. i wouldnt post them, just send them via a pm to you.
I love that Texture pack :D It does exactly represent the time period I like to build :P
Currently I'm working on a similar themed pack, but there are no similarities between them... I'll go on the fantasy and steam-aspect, I try not to make it look so "real"^^
This will be cool for the future updates. The fire balls that can be shot out of dispensers could be used as cannon/ heavy artillery on ships. It looks good from what I have seen!
I just tried downloading this texture pack, but just like your Romecraft one my browser couldn't find the server D: Do you know anything I could do to make it work again? (Also, none of the images on this page load, and neither do the B, I, or U things in this comment box, I've had to guess where they are and click a blank space... :L Help!)
[bgcolor=rgb(242,246,249)]can i use some of your textures for my own texture pack? i will give you some credit for it. if your reading this, thank you for your time. =) [/bgcolor]
It would probably be nice if you could add more things in the steam launch factory.
*diamond for you*
