Currently contains: 121 entities
-Note: The .zip goes into your resource packs folder!-
REQUIRES OPTIFINE HD U C7 or any other version that includes name-based entity textures!

This pack is heavily inspired by Additional Elytras and SixFootBlue's Transmobifier!
Although I use Transmobifier myself, I haven't tested on compatibility yet.
~~
This pack was created because a friend of mine, Loyjanna, ever recreated Hogwarts on the server where I am a moderator. Around that time, I had just released Additional Elytras . I promised her to look into making flying keys for Hogwarts. At that time, name-based mob textures weren’t possible, so I told her I would make a key to replace the bat with. I never really got into making the flying key anymore. Recently, I saw SixFootBlue posting his awesome transmobifier pack and realised that it is finally possible to use name-based entities. As a result, Additional Entities was born!
~~
Stalk me on novaskin, where I do most textures :P

[code]I'm wondering how I'd get these textures to work without names, and instead biomes.
The first is coppied from my personal pack, made from a mis-match of textures & stuff from a buntch of packs. The 2nd is my "template". Does it work, if you know?

Names:
[/code][code]skins.2=22
name.2=pattern:*John*

Template:
[/code][code]skins.[number of texture?]=[texture name]
name.2=pattern:*[Name for nametag/mob]*[/code][code]

Biomes example:[/code][code]skins.14=12 26
biomes.14=Beach DeepOcean Ocean Swampland SwamplandM River
; weights.14=10 10 10 10 10 10 1 10 10 25
heights.14=0-255

template:[/code][code]skins.[texture number? ]=[texture 1] [texture 2]
biomes.14=[biomes you want it to appear];
weights.14= [How rare the texture is]
heights.14= [self explainatory][/code]

Edit: It changed what I typed!? ignore the code stuff.

Should be something along those lines:

Let's say you have a creeper in a swimsuit as texture, that you want to generate on a beach.
You have 14 (can be any amount) other textures, so this would be the 15th texture.

The texture should be called "creeper15.png". The entities' name could be used, but isn't neccesary if you want it to generate on a certain biome.

The code should be:

skins.15=15
name.15=regex/iregex: [any name you want]
biomes.15=beach
weights.15= [the times you want this texture to appear]
heights.15= [The heights between your texture should appear]

You dont have to use everything, if you just want a texture in a certain biome the skins and biomes properties should suffice. Regex is Case Sensitive, whereas Iregex isn't. In my pack I used Iregex, as I believe it adds more freedom for the end-user.

For reference: https://github.com/sp614x/optifine/blob/master/OptiFineDoc/doc/random_entities.properties

Only thing that bothers me about this method is that the texture doesn't 'stick' to the mob. Let's say, you have fenced in a horse with texture 7 .. it's possible that the same horse has texture 9 when you log back in.

Thanks.
Yeah, on the server I play on, I fenced in a zombie to make a doorman. Every time I come by my home, he has a different texture. I named him John, from my example above, but it didn't work. Oh well. It's not that important.

Is there a way to make them "stick" or not really?

The only way to do this (as far as my knowledge is concerned) is by making a name-based entity texture. You basically do what I did in this pack;

You can create a pack, then go to /assets/minecraft/mcpatcher/mob/zombie.
Then create a text file called "zombie.properties".
Depending on the amount of mob textures that are already added by other packs, you need to name your texture. I know that transmobifier doesn't add any zombie textures and that my pack only adds one (at this moment). I wrote you a little line that you can add to your properties file. Its compatible with transmobifier and my pack.

#John
skins.49=49
name.49=iregex:(John|.* John|John .*|.* John .*)

Any zombie named "John", "(anything) John", "John (Anything)" or "(anything) john (anything)" will have the respective skin. Anything can literally be anything, like "ugly John" or "John the terrible".

Cool, Thanks. Diamond-ed & Subscribed. Good luck.
Just John was fine. I got it from TvTropes: And then John was a Zombie.

Great pack!!! I love the textures! I have one suggestion: you could also make textures for the polar bear, like the grizzly or black bear and panda!

I've actually looked into making those, but I need some different program to do the retextures. I normally use Novaskin, but they haven't added the models for the polar bear yet.
Now, if I can only figure out how to change the skin with the anvil... It won't work. I don't know what the [Your name] part is. What does that mean?

Your name can be anything. It's just the desired name.

Example:

You want the meerkat texture for a cat. The guide says "[your name] + mk". Let's say you want to name the meerkat 'Tom'. Rename a nametag into "Tom mk" and you will get the respective meerkat texture.
I LOVE IT! Maybe I'll add itembound into the mix so I get special items AND special mobs!

basically the idea is for the server Mineplex which I'm guessing you have heard of. They have recently added sword names in which you get a sword name and it equips onto any sword you end up holding (there are different names for different swords) I was hoping you could make a texture for the sword names. ty

Heya! I'd like to hear you out, but I have a very busy schedule. Work, uni and server moderator take up a lot of time - I spend whatever time I have leftover on building and adding new textures. Send me a private message, and I'll see if I can help you!

hi. I have any idea for a pack that would work with a specific server and i was hoping you could make it. I'm asking you this because when i saw your custom mob pack i noticed you have a lot of experience making textures that change when the name of the weapon in question is changed. If you could get back to me i would appreciate that. ty
