Hello, and thanks for taking interest in my texture pack.

I created this pack, as I'd assume many texture pack authors do, because I grew tired of the default textures. Particularly, I don't like how inconsistent they are from one texture to the next. This is particularly evident in the items. Some, like the food, are very detailed while others are very flat and have a restricted pallet.

To put it mildly, it was driving me crazy so I thought I'd make this pack to return to Sanity.

I wanted to get as close to a realistic look as I could while still keeping the pixilated charm of the default 16x resolution. I've also gone to great lengths to make sure that there's no need to use any mods, like MCPatcher, if you don't want to. I'm not going to make anyone mod their game if they don't want to just to use my work. Of course I've added some optional extras for those who do use a texture-enhancing mod, but the changes are few and mostly subtle.

It's taken me over a year to make, so I hope you all enjoy it.

You shouldn't be unzipping it at all.

When you go into Minecraft, open the Resource Packs menu. There's a button at the bottom that says something to the effect of "Open Resource Pack Folder". Click this, and it will open a folder on your computer. Copy Sanity.zip into this folder. Close that window, back out of the Resource Packs menu, and then go back in. You should see the pack available to be selected. Move it to the right-hand side and you should be done.

If that doesn't work, please provide details about what you're doing. Version number, session logs, if you have any other packs or mods installed, and so forth. Provide as much information as possible. Help me to help you.

Everyone hates on the villagers. I think y'all are just racist against blue people with huge tongues. :P

Jokes aside, I'm glad you like the pack. Thank you for taking the time to tell me. Feedback keeps me motivated to keep improving this! ^_^

You're very welcome, though I decry your assertion that it's "perfecto". There's still a LOT that I want to improve on this pack. Hopefully you'll continue to enjoy it. If you'd like to see occasional snippets of what i'm working on to give feedback, sign up on Minecraft Forum and check out my thread, or follow me on Twitter. Your choice.

Regardless, I'm super glad that you enjoy the pack! Knowing people actually use this thing is what makes it worthwhile to spend my time on. XD

I love all but a few things about this resource pack. I prefer this one to many higher resolution packs, because it just looks better to me. The only things I can say that I don't like about this resource pack, is how the villagers look, how the golems look, and how the nether brick looks.

I can't tell if the villagers are smurfs sticking their tongues at me, or bird people with little beaks. Either way, I don't like their very bright color scheme. I don't mind that they don't look human, I actually appreciate that they don't, it gives some distance between how I associate them with myself. I do, however, dislike the very bright color scheme they have. I like this resource pack because it looks very vivid and at the same time gritty, I mostly enjoy the grittier aspects, and the very happy bright villagers just take away from my want to angst. If they were a bit more somber, gritty, serious etc. I'd like them much more. Perhaps another mythical creature that looks at least neutral would satisfy me.

I can understand the reasons the golems look the way they look, as you do put a pumpkin on them to make them, but again, as much as it makes sense, the vines and stuff make it much harder for me to take them seriously because it looks too bright and lively. Maybe it's not even that, perhaps I just don't like it. I prefer resource packs that would make iron golems look like iron machines, or suits of magic armor, or a very big strong villager. It doesn't even always make sense that they would have a pumpkin on their head, as you can find them spawned in naturally as well. But I completely understand why you would do that, I just don't appreciate it as well. The snow golem of course always has a pumpkin on it's head, but I am not a fan of the vines. I prefer to shear the pumpkin off their head, because I thought it looked kinda dumb even in vanilla. But if one was someone who likes them with it on, I completely understand why you'd do that, I just don't like it.

The nether brick is my only major concern with this pack, and I even opt to replace it. The bright lightning blue can look kinda neato in the nether when you are just exploring, but it makes builds that looks dark and desolate normally, look like a children's playland. Worst of all, your textures are so good, I can't replicate them to make a darker, grittier replacement that satisfies me. I have in the past taken textures from other resource packs to replace it, but it just doesn't fit in. Another thing, your choice to replace the nether brick fence model with the cobble stone wall model confounds me. It makes the windows in the nether fortresses just look like more wall. I really don't like that you did that, and I always revert that model to vanilla, or find one from another resource pack to replace it.

Oh, and kinda a niche thing here, I don't like red clay textures, for the reasons of that for one, it ruins a lot of builds that use it as a softer looking stone substitute, and for two, when I model weapons, I always use the clay texture as the coloring for my blades, so in this resource pack by default, they look rusty and I have to change the clay texture which is just a small nuisance, but this doesn't affect everyone obviously.

I absolutely love everything else about this resource pack and I use it so long as the server I'm playing doesn't require a custom resource pack. I just have these few complaints about it. I also like your mint flavor resource pack, though not as much as this one, as I am for the more nitty gritty textures. I also love the changing light color throughout the day, and all the animated textures, and all those other little details you tossed in. If it just had those few things tweaked, I'd say it's almost perfection to me, but that's just my taste talking. I don't even know how to replicate your style to make replacements that I'd enjoy, anything I make to personalize it just lacks the original artist's touch.

Thank you for such a wonderful resource pack!

Thank you for the feedback! :D

The villagers are indeed "smurfs" as you put it with their tongues sticking out. Just thought I'd clarify that so you could stop wondering. As for them being too bright I disagree even though I do see your point. My original thought with them was to make them instantly identifiable so players could spot them easily. I also didn't like them when they were first introduced (and still don't, though I find them less totally obnoxious now) so I made them a bit goofy on purpose. If I had unlimited time and interest to work on this pack I'd consider some variants. As it is, there are not plans to change my blueberries into anything else.

For the iron golems you pretty much hit the nail on the head as to why I made them the way I did. One thing you got wrong though is that they cannot be found naturally in the wild... unless they changed this in the last few versions without my noticing. Instead, they spawn near large groups of villagers who presumably constructed them. Why then do they have a pumpkin? Well... same reason they do when a player constructs them! There's no rhyme or reason or realism to how villages get the items they trade, so when they decide to build a golem I just assume that they pull the iron blocks and pumkins out of their fannies the same as they do the tons of emeralds I bilk them out of. :P

A LOT of people have complained about the nether brick. If there were ever an easy way to add variant textures to the pack I'd add a more bog-standard version just to shut people up about it. I personally love the blue and have no intention of changing it... but I do see your point in that regard. Again, not one I agree with but I understand where you're coming from. For the netherbrick fences being turned into walls... I guess I never thought about the windows of the Nether Fortresses as being an issue. I might look into changing those, so thank you for the feedback. :)

The red clay is another one of those things I did for consistency. The clay hardens into reddish bricks and terracotta, which is something it makes no sense for gray clay to do. It should be pretty easy to make a gray variant of it just by lowering the saturation, though, so at least you can swap it easily even thought a good customization option.

I'm glad you enjoy the pack overall. I can't make it perfect for everyone, unfortunately, so I just try to make the pack that I personally want to play and just hope that other people find it tolerable. Sadly this means there's always going to be a few things that even fans of my work find irksome. :(

But besides those things... you're welcome. ^_^

There's always a period of adapting to a new pack when you try it for the first time. This goes for pretty much any pack not directly derived from default... and even for a few that are. Once you push past that you'll find there are a LOT of really great packs out there to enjoy. I'm happy that you chose mine! ^_^

That you for the positive feedback. I shall indeed keep it up!

To me either Sanity (or XSSheep's Pixel Perfection) is how I imagine default MC textures should look like. I will never understand the popularity of all these Faithfull type packs since they just recreate all the things that bug me about the default just in higher resolution. When the problem with the default is not the 16x but rather the ugly mis-matched textures! So this is a great alternative for when I get sick of themed packs and want something more "vanilla but better". Keep up the great work!

This is very high praise! Thank you very much!

Yea, I feel the same way about Faithful packs and the default pack itself. The many problems with default were what inspired me to start on this pack oh so many years ago. Not even kidding. The thought that kicked this pack off was "I can make a better cobblestone texture than that!" which spun out into "I can create a better EVERYTHING than that!"

If you're looking for a pack that captures the default textures more literally, but actually fixes all of the flaws, I suggest you check out Lithos by Eleazzaar. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's almost exactly what I would have made if I'd created a Faithful pack in Sanity's style. While I hope you keep using Sanity as your default, Lithos is great for servers where everyone has built using vanilla colors and you don't want to get too far from that.

Thank you again for the high praise. That's exactly what I hope people think of with my pack. ^_^

I agree that Eleazzaar's Lithios is by far best pack in the 'Faithful' genre that I've seen. But I still wish the default looked something more along the lines of either Sanity or Pixel Perfection or Jungle Ruins :)

They're still available in the older versions of the pack if you want to swap them out.

Eventually I'd like to add an easy way to swap out alternate textures, but unfortunately I've neither the time to do that nor the software to make it easy for the end user. Hopefully both of those things will be rectified in the future. :)

Does anything on my profile suggest that I do mods? 0_o I'm guessing the answer is "no" but just to clarify this: I cannot program my way out of a wet paper bag. Ergo, I do not create mods. I just create pretty textures.

Unless you're asking for mod support for a food mod for this pack at which point I'd ask "which one in particular do you want me to support"? Keep in mind that I most likely won't even if you specify, mod support being very time-consuming and seldom used, but I will consider it.

My other pack, Mint Flavor, is also for 1.9.x. It's not for everyone, but if you're looking for a 100% complete fully-compatible pack for 1.9.2 that one is also an option. Give it a look, and tell me what you think!

Besides that, I am indeed working on three other packs. The thing is that making resource packs takes a LOT of time. I have no idea when I'll get any of them published. The only one I really have "plans" for is an autumn-themed one that will be released in an incomplete state this fall... hopefully. No promises.

After you brought it to my attention, I realized what was causing the problem was a bug in Optifine (which I never use). I had to remove a feature of the pack so that this wouldn't happen to Optifine users. Made me sad because I liked what I had done with potions, but it wasn't worth making it so a substantial part of the people using it would see it as an error.

Thank you VERY much for bringing this to my attention. Hopefully Optifine will get fixed one of these versions so I can put that little feature back in. :)

Sanity is designed to have minimal impact on performance. It's a little bit heavier than the default pack, but I doubt you'll notice a difference. For a long time I played on a laptop that barely got 20fps and this pack did nothing to further degrade my performance. I think if your laptop can do 30-50 you won't have any issue at all. ^_^
