Hi Again,

It is time. Kyctarniq's FTB Ultimate texture pack is mature enough to go to release.

FTB has grabbed my interest. These guys are working hard to create a polished and fun game experience. I am also just enjoying making the textures for all the different mods :)

Please let me know what you think, especially and what needs more work.

Great texture pack! however there in my opinion I think that the ore textures are a bit confusing as they all look so similar and I had to constantly switch back to the default textures in game

Which textures are confusing?  I will help fix that.  The more details you can give the better I can fix it.  Thank you for telling me.
It is just my opinion. its the ores i find it hard to distinguish one from the other whilst I am ingame

Ahhh, i understand now.  The ore textures are designed to make them more easy to distinguish on sight (whole block rather than a few spots).  However they are very different from default. and that is hard sometimes.
That is true however my problem is that i cant tell which ore is which as some of the ore textures are very similar, I also noticed a problem with another one of your textures - The iridium ore block and the iridium ore item have the same texture

I agree in a way that the ores look similar.  They are all based on a photo of a real ore.  I have picked the ones that stand out most but in reality all ores do look very similar.

The Iridium ore gen'ed and mined looking the same is on purpose.  I wanted the ore block and ore item to have the same texture just like Iron ore.
I guess I just have to get use to the ore textures then. otherwise i think that this is a great texture pack ;)

wait in the "abandon workshop" picture the stone on the floors and the white brick, are those the "vanilla textures for the mod's?" or are those the retextured hd verison's?

Those are marble blocks, white clay looks similar.

soo i spent the last 10 hrs Looking at your textures xD haha.
and i LOVEEE THE SWORDS i may make them more shaded.
But can i Have Permission to use some of your textures in my pack when mines finished?

i will supply FULL links to your Forum, Youtube, or PMC page and stat that i am using those specific textures:
(which ever the final chosen ones are)

i only ask this since you have already designed a VERY great sword and some very great pickaxes that WOULDNT look to shabby next to my hd vanilla verisons :D

You are wayyyyy ahead of the curve.  

The location of textures changes drastically in the new 1.6.4 versions of the Mods and it can change between versions of the same mod (often).  That is why I package my texture packs for launcher mod packs.  That way the verion of each mod is fixed in a texturepack.  I have not tried to create a texture pack for all versions of a mod.  For 1.6.4 texture locations see my Tekkit pack or my FTB Direwolf20 pack.


Now that Forge 1.7.2 is stable, yes, mods are moving to it.  I advise patience on on 1.7.2.  When you see mod packs on FTB or Technic is when I recommend starting.  Things like features and texture locations will be in flux and you will spend a great deal of time making changes you could avoid by waiting.

I have started 1.8 changes for my Vanilla packs but given the next snapshot will change everything I am focusing on creating Cubik models and let Cubik handle the json changes.  Hope this approach works otherwise I have lost alot of work.  1.8 Forge is a long while off yet.  I'll worry about that in a bit, Again, I'll keep an eye on FTB and Technic for the cues on when to start.

MATE!  400Mb is friggin' enormous.  I get squirrely at 50M.  Something to think about is as of Forge 1.7.2 we will be able to stack texture packs (multiple at the same time).  I am planning to break out some mod supports into small addon packs.  In particular for the mods that are not in a Mod Pack, like Dalek Mod and Weeping Angels.

does the pack work in 1.6.4? im using your pack as a "temp" so I NO the names of the files and then im going one by one by one changing them all ;-; i may be doing this a long time since my pack is ment to be vanilla based and have a touch of realism its hard to think of what some of these items would look like blown up with more detail O.o

also yeah my main question is does this work for 1.6.4 or 1.7 since ftb will be coming to 1.7 soon enough O.o since forge has been 1.7 since december :/
and 1.8 is about to come out O.o

MY texture pack FOR VANILLA is 1.4 -through- 1.8 compatible.
i wanted to do the same for ftb 1.4 - 1.6.4 >for all FTB packs O.o and some extra mods i like...
i got alot of work ahead of meh ;-; dayuummm u did good work xD

You have chosen huge but absolutely worthwhile project.  I love bringing my ideas to the amazing work of the Modders.  Go for it!!!  Is my advice.  

You will face one issue: filesize.  I have filesize problems without both versions in a single pack.  You may need to increase the memory allocation to prevent a crash form "out of memory".

This pack will texture everything in the mod pack. ATM I am only 85% finished.  There are some mods I have not got to yet.  I am working on them.

it also didnt HELP at the time i was on my cell phone and my Andriod didnt let me look at the pictures ;-;

anyways im making my own texture pack thats 64 and 128 *not sure if i wana release since it looks KINDA like mc enhanced or faithful or R3d Craft or etc* even though i made all the textures.

i just wanted to see how you made the textures since it may help me some since i wasnt sure how to name some of the Mobs or blocks for Mo Creatures or OTHER mods *even though u didnt do any mo creatures*

can you give me any advice on mobs for mod's? since i wana retexture allll the mobs in ftb and mo creatures :/

I will update the text to indicate I retexture the mods to help people on phones.  Thanks I'll fix that.

All of the jar and zips for the mods used are in the /mods directory. All the textures used in the cage come from those jars and zips.  For 1.4.7 the locations of the textures is different for each mod and you need to play detective to find the textures.  For 1.6.4, luckily almost every mod settled on assets/{modname}/.  If you get stuck on any particular mod, shoot me a PM I'll be glad to help.

How to make textures? is a huge question.  I have spent a great deal of time learning my editor, GIMP, the more I know of Gimp the better my textures get.  Next is learning to get the ideas that are in my head into Gimp.  This has been helped amazingly by learning "art".  The same rules that apply to artists painting apply to creating tiny art (textures).  I was complete crap when I started, and I am still learning.  KEEP GOING AND LEARNING.

I think that the FTB ores are a little out of whack; between the wild colorations, and the fact that they do not (to my knoledge) have anything to do with the color of the actual ore itself. In my mind, the ore before it is mined should at least be colored something like the ore after it's smelted, right? But that's just me, I guess; maybe I'm just to used to "normal" texurepacks that closely follow the scheme of "default".
Either way, one thing does certainly seem to stick out: some of the FTB-based colorations, as wild as they are, are very similar to each other, making it somewhat hard to figure out what is what, before you mine it. It's really just a small nusiance, but still...
Oh, and could you possible put an interface background for your FTB machines (batbox, electric furnace, ect.) that is similar to your other stuff (Furnace, crafting table, inventory)? Thanks! :)
Also, loving the bed! :)
P.S. I also kinda acidentally downloaded this for my Mindcrack world... that's not going to be an issue, in terms of textures, right? Sorry, I'm, well... a bit of a noob. Still looks cool, if you ask me. :)

Firstly, thank you for writing. Your message says two things to me, you use my textrure pack and you like it enough to care is something is not right.  Both of those are wonderful.

I have based the ores on actual pictures of the specific ores, however, there are many different oxides and I have generally chosen the colours that stand out most.  Is there a specific ore that is most jarring?  I am open to making the rack better so let me see if I can help.

Hmm. Well I was wondering what "photobased texture pack" meant... thanks for clearing that up :)
If the ores are based on what they actually looks like, I can't really speak for the "off-looking" coloring. I don't know what the ores are actually supposed to look like, so I guess I'll take this as an opportunity to learn something new. The huge change is a tad weird, I personally think, but then, that's the making of a truly good pack, and it is certainly something I'll enjoy learning; It's almost as if I'm re-learning FTB basics. Thanks!
And, the particular ores... yes, the lead and the monozait ores look identical. They're also the ores that I was mainly referencing to when I said "As wild as they are... very similar to each other". I just did a double check, they're exactly the same.
Also, sorry for my long response, I haven't been on FTB, low on spare time... also my computer is a tad laggy, so that kinda discourages my FTBing. Again, love the pack, I'll be sure to keep it!

You actually mentioned the HUGE difficulty in the current pack.  The lead is Galena ore and is accurate.  I used galena as the base for Monozait because lead was not present at that time.  The trouble is there is no "real" monozait.  I like the idea of multicolour in Monozait.  I agree I need a new texture!

I am working on it. I have a better font in the pack but HD Fonts is not part of FTB, I will look into including a better lowres font. I thought I had changed the golems. I will check this. Please let me know anything else.

I love how you are the only person even trying to create your own FTB texture pack but i just dont think the textures are very good sorry. :( but i really love that you are trying and would love to see some of your future textures :)

And if you look at all my packs you will see I take constructive criticism incredibly well. Of course there are people that do not like my work, because I have made this for my tastes. I just don't see how post like the one above are at all helpful.

Yes I have a similar problem. I have been installing Optifine and that was helping AMAZINGLY. I had a problem with Ultimate not working with Optifine though. I expect I made a mistake on install. I must try again with the new build that was just released.
