If you aren't sure how to install data packs, check out this video.
Do you like magic? Do you like Minecraft?
This data pack adds a variety of new magical features to the game! New structures, advancements and even magic spells!
There are 25 (49 including different levels) spells so far:
Casting Blood Curse on an enemy will curse them, so that when they die, you gain some of the health that they lost. (gain 3 Hearts)
Spell Costs
Casting spells has two costs; every time you cast a spell it will drain your XP by a few points. Because of this, you need to have at least one level to be able to cast a spell. The other cost is an internal mana counter stored independently for each spell. Basically casting a spell uses up its' durability, but it recharges over time.
Obtaining Spells
When you first load up the data pack, it's unlikely that you'll have the resources to use a spell forge, but there is a way to get your hands on basic spells. The basic spells are:
- Fireball I
- Ice Shard I
- Slam I
- Blood Curse
- Nature's Friend I
To get a basic spell you can drop a piece of paper, or a blank scroll, on a fallen star. You can also collect them from Witches, or find them in Wizard towers.
Crafting a spell forge is pretty easy; all you need is 4 Obsidian, 2 Lapis lazuli and an Anvil. Arrange them like you would to craft an Enchanting table, but book -> anvil, and diamonds -> lapis. You can also find Spell Forges in wizard towers. All the forging recipes can be found in-game in a "Mage's Notebook," which you will get for crafting a Spell Forge, or find in Wizard Towers.
You will notice that all the Level 1 spells require a Blank Scroll to forge, you can find these in chests in all kinds of structures, or a drop from killing Witches.
If you want to get them in creative mode you can do "/loot give @s loot e422.spells:spells/SPELL NAME" - the spell names will auto fill
Wizard Towers and Witches
Wizard towers will naturally generate in villages, not all villages though. They will always have a Spell forge, at least one blank scroll or a basic spell, and some lapis.
Witches can cast spells! Be extra careful when trying to fight them! If you do manage to kill one though, it has a chance to drop either a basic spell, or a blank scroll.
Fallen Stars
Fallen stars are not very common, so if you haven't encountered one it just mean that you haven't been lucky enough yet.
When you do find a fallen star though, you have a few options; throw paper or a blank scroll on it for a chance to get a basic spell, pick it up in a bottle (right click with a bottle), or step on it and get blown up.
Stars in bottles (Bottle's o' Enchanting) can be used to forge certain spells, or you can drink them for some tasty XP points!
Advancements
This pack also adds Advancements for all three types of magic! (Brewing, Enchanting, and Spells) You can check them out in game.
Want to use the spells but not all the other features?
Good news! I made a modified version of the pack with only the spells - no spell forge, no fallen stars, no wizard towers. Click here for the download!
NOTE - THE SPELLS ARE NOT OBTAINABLE IN SURVIVAL IN THIS VERSION
Feedback and Support
If you have any suggestion, problems, or bugs to report, please let me know in the comments, or on my discord server. I always like to hear peoples ideas, or responses to my packs, so if you have something to say, say it! If you find an issue, I can only fix it if you tell me :D
If you want help adding your own spells to the data pack (which I fully encourage), you can also ask me for help on the discord server :)
Notes:
This pack is FULLY multiplayer friendly, so it will work on server with any number of players.
Playing without the Resource Pack has a serious effect on how fun the pack is, so make sure to use it!
If you are playing on 1.16, you can use the older version of this pack (it has less content, but is the same idea)
