Isn't it annoying when you die and your Items are far away and surrounded by danger?

With this data pack no longer, since you keep your fighting equipment like weapons, tools and armor on you when dying!

Personally I don't like playing with the keepInventory true gamerule because it feels cheap to go somewhere dangerous without the risk of losing anything. This data pack aims to give dangerous areas the risk back they deserve while still allowing you to use your best equipment that you spent hours on farming, crafting and enchanting.

Items normally despawn after 5 minutes.
This data pack extends that to 10 minutes for items dropped by dying although this can be changed with the in game config.

The following items are kept when dying:
- Armor, Elytra, Heads, Skulls and Carved Pumpkins
- Tools and Weapons including Trident, Flint and Steal and Fishing Rods
- Clocks, Compasses and Recovery Compasses
- All Golden Apples, Potions and Totems
- Every type of Arrow, all Torches and Firework Rockets
- Ender Pearls and Ender Eyes
- Goat Horns, Spyglasses, all Maps and all Buckets
- All types of Boats, Minecarts, Saddles and Horse Armor
- Written Books and Writable Books (Book and Quill)
- Carrots on a Stick and Warped Fungi on a Stick

The data pack is highly configurable:
You can change what items are kept/dropped by modifying the item tag at /data/ps-keep/tags/items/drop_on_death.json
The config can be changed ingame by any admin by typing /function ps-keep:config

This data pack should be compatible with most other data packs.
If you find any incompatibilities or other bugs, just let me know in a comment below!

yes, this is similar to how the system should be, but you did it opposite. weapons and armor is what you should lose. that encourages the player to craft new gear if they lose it, and it gives uses to leftover materials

i simply suggest you do a function where you can swap between what is saved, gear (tools, waepons, armor, etc), or every otehr item

You can edit the drop_on_death.json file yourself like explained at the bottom of the packs description. All items in that file are dropped when dying.

Hi there, really like the idea of this datapack its kinda exactly how I want to play cause keep inventory feels like cheating and without it that game can be way too tough sometimes. I came across a fatal glitch with this data pack though that made my world almost completely unusable after hours of playing. It seems that when I put enchantments on my weapons and died they would not stay in my inventory nor be dropped and would be gone forever. This really really sucks cause I really wanted to play the game like this but with that glitch I just cant use this data pack and actually play the game.

Hi there! I've noticed that on a paper server - players with empty inventories seem to be dropping a single stone block. Of course, I'm assuming the pack's meant to run on paper because it was updated to work with paper in a previous version.

I realise, though, that you're working on a full rewrite and might not bother fixing this change (since it's only mild). Just thought I'd let you know :D

I've created a private datapack that accomplishes the same thing. However, I believe the new method I'm using could be further optimized. Rather than clearing out the inventory and dropping the items, it utilizes an armor stand and predicate check to teleport any newly dropped items. I can share the method with you, and you can update the datapack with it if you'd like.
