Smelting is one of many, what I would consider unfinished, aspects of Minecraft. There are many things that could be changed or added to make it better.
There are several data packs out there that try and address this, but they each only bring so little to the table, so I decided to make an all-inclusive pack once and for all.

Main Features:
  • The Blast Furnace now works as a Kiln, which is a much desired specialty furnace type (That we unfortunately cannot add without mods).
  • Campfires can turn flammable Logs and Wood, including their stripped variants, into Charcoal.
  • Raw Blocks can be Blasted into Blocks, doing so more efficiently than raw items, and rewarding more EXP.
  • More items can recycle into Iron Nuggets, and a few blocks can recycle into Ingots in the Blast Furnace.
  • Using the Furnace or Campfire, Rotten Flesh can be cured into Leather, but takes twice as long as normal items.
Minor Features:
  • Sweet Berries can cook into Sugar, and Glow Berries into Glowstone Dust.
  • Cactus, Sea Pickle, and Chorus Fruit can be used in a Smoker.
  • Campfires can dry Sponges
  • Powder Snow Bucket melts into Water Bucket.
  • Anvils can recycle into an Iron Block using a Blast Furnace.
And that does it! Let me know what you think. Anything I should add? Leave it in the comments!

v2.1 : by AuraAcorn 04/24/2024 9:57:56 pmApr 24th

I'm back baby! Since I'm redoing all of my data packs that I can make changes to because of 1.20.5's new changes, I also learned that you can have lists of items in a crafting recipe slot, rather than needing so many separate JSON files. With this, along with new item tags that can be used, I cut down the size of the pack (amount of files) down to about half of its size before!
  • All charcoal log campfire cooking has been reduced down to a single file, instead of 32 (Yeah imagine how I felt discovering I could do that lol).
  • Recycling has been reduced in amount of files.
  • NOTE: You won't notice any of these, but hey, it'll make the whole thing load a ton faster!
  • Additionally, all anvil stages can be recycled down to an Iron block, instead of just the damaged stage.

Maybe add a „Block of Bamboo“ to „Charcoal“ recipe
