BRDM-2DI - is one of the options for the modernization of the Soviet BRDM-2, developed in 2005 at the State Enterprise in Nikolaev Mechanical Repair Plant.
The development of the armored vehicle was started taking into account the experience gained in 2003-2005 by the Ukrainian military contingent in Iraq[8] (where at the same time the Polish military contingent used upgraded BRDM-2M96i - with additional hatches and Iveco Aifo 8040 diesel engines)[9].
On September 27-30, 2005, a demonstration sample of the BRDM-2DI was presented at the exhibition "Weapons and Security-2005" in Kiev.
In 2006, the BRDM-2DI was tested with a BUG fighting compartment.
In the manufacture of the BRDM-2DI, the ready-made armored hull of the Soviet BRDM-2 is used from stock, which is undergoing repair, re-equipment and repainting.
