Welcome! This is a quick guide on how to do "technical" Minecraft stuff on a Mac. Enjoy!
Accessing the Library folder on Lion
On Lion (10.7) the Library folder is automatically hidden. To see it temporarily, at the top bar, click "Go" and then hold down the option key, the Library will show up. To get to it again, you can click on "Go" and then "Recent Folders".
Installing Texture Packs
To install a texture pack on a Mac, go to:
Library > Application Support > minecraft > Texture Packs. Then place the zip file into the Texture pack folder.
Voila!
Installing a mod
To install a mod on a Mac,
Go to Library > Application Support > minecraft > bin. In your bin, duplicate the file minecraft.jar, the duplicate will be your backup incase anything goes wrong. Then, change the name of minecraft.jar to minecraft.zip, do this by clicking on the name once. After that, change the name from minecraft.zip to minecraft.jar. Then, copy the files from the mod to minecraft.jar. Run Minecraft and enjoy!
Note: Make sure to install Modloader if it's required, to do so, just copy the Modloader files along with the mod files into minecraft.jar.
Installing a custom map
To install a custom map:
Go to Library > Application Support > minecraft > saves. Then copy the world file and paste it into there. It's that easy!
Using the F1, F2 and F3 key
To use F1, F2 and F3 in Minecraft on a Mac, you have to hold the "fn" key and then press F1, F2 or F3. F1 makes the tool bar, chat log and your "arm" disappear, mainly for taking videos/screenshots. F2 takes a screenshot (The screenshot can be located by going too: Library > Application Support > minecraft > screenshots). F3 makes the "info" page appear, with the seed, RAM usage etc.
Thanks for reading! If you have any suggestions, this was hard to understand, or anything you think I should add, please tell me!
