Welcome Ladies and Gentleblocks to a tutorial guide on the latest 1.5 Redstone Update. I've had this ready to be published for some time now (ever since the snapshot) but I never got round to finalising it, so here it is.
On another note, I'll be absent on PMC for the coming months or so due to a variety of reasons but hopefully I'll be back in June or thereabouts.
Redstone Comparator--
The redstone comparator is a rather complicated redstone device that essentially allows a signal to be either blocked or repeated through depending on the input. It can be toggled by right-clicking to enable the 'subtraction' feature which will basically enable the inputs to be subtracted from one another to then provide a weaker signal.
-Inactive Comparator-
-Active Comparator-
How to craft...
The comparator uses a piece of nether quartz (also added in this version), 3 redstone torches and 3 pieces of smooth stone arranged like so.
Hopper--
The hopper acts as a method of picking up items dropped above it and transporting them depending on the direction of the funnel (dependant on the direction of being placed) as well as being able to hold the items indefinitely.
-In Game Appearance-
How to craft...
The hopper uses 5 iron ingots and a chest arranged like so.
Other uses...
Combining a hopper with a minecart will create a Hopper Minecart which has the same properties as a hopper but it can be moved.
Dropper--
The dropper acts in a similar way to a dispenser however it drops items contained in it in their entity form (as opposed to being fired out as with arrows or fire charges). It will also place items in chests if a chest is directly adjacent to it.
-In Game Appearance-
How to craft...
The dropper uses 7 blocks of cobblestone and one piece of redstone arranged like so.
Daylight Sensor--
This block detects the level of sunlight being emitted and sends out a redstone signal of a certain length, based on that level. Eg. A high noon sun will make the sensor provide a further reaching output current than at sunset.
-In Game Appearance-
How to craft...
The daylight sensor uses 3 of the new nether quartz pieces (later explained) combined with 3 glass blocks and 3 wooden slabs of any kind, arranged like so.
Trapped Chest--
The trapped chest acts like any regular chest except that when opened, it emits a standard-length redstone signal from all sides. It also has a faint red stain on the front-facing lock graphic.
-In Game Appearance-
How to craft...
The trapped chest is crafted using a standard chest and a tripwire hook arranged like so.
Weighted Pressure Plate--
These pressure plates act like standard pressure plates however they will only emit a signal or be activated when an item of a certain weight is placed on them. Visit the Minecraft Wiki page to see the weight values.
-In Game Appearance-
How to craft...
The weighted pressure plates can either be crafted with gold ingots (light pressure plate) or iron ingots (heavy pressure plate) arranged like so.
Block of Redstone--
The block of redstone acts as a permanent, non-toggleable redstone current source that will never run out nor be switched off unless mined.
-In Game Appearance-
How to craft...
The redstone block is very easy to craft, all you need is 9 pieces of redstone that fill up the crafting bench.
Nether Quartz--
Nether Quartz is the final major block addition to the game which adds Nether Quartz Ore, Nether Quartz, Nether Quartz Block, Chiseled Nether Quartz, Nether Quartz Pillars, Nether Quartz Slab and Nether Quartz Stairs (in order of images below).
Nether Quartz Ore can only be found in newly-generated nether terrain and can be either mined or smelted.
-In Game Appearance-
How to craft...
The base of any of the decorative nether quartz blocks, is the nether quartz itself.
... Nether Quartz Block
... Nether Quartz Slabs
... Nether Quartz Stairs
... Nether Quartz Pillars
Thanks a lot for reading and I hope I've shown you how to make all the newly added items of the Minecraft 1.5 'Redstone Update'.
This tutorial took me surprisingly long because of the assembly of the graphics, so a diamond is always appreciated :)
