The car
Second part in my impromptu series of scale 100:1 random cars, the Mercedes CLK-GTR is one of the rarest, priciest and most revered supercars of it's time. Designed in 1997 to compete for newcomer team AMG-Mercedes in the FIA GT Championship (which it dominated for two seasons, up until the cup was canceled altogether), the manufacturer also had to release a street version of their racer due to competition regulations.
Mercedes came through on this obligation in 1999, producing the strict minimum amount of 25 street cars with minimal modifications from the original. After rolling out the first 20 as coupés, the last 5 cars were produced as convertibles instead, each one custom and unique; altogether the CLK-GTR street version was the most expensive manufactured car of all time in 1999, featuring a price tag of $1,547,620 despite attempts to cut production costs.
The CLK-GTR was also adopted by at least one (and probably more, but I couldn't be arsed looking those up) racing video game, Need for Speed 4: Road Challenge (or High Stakes, depending on your region), which is where I got the idea from.
The build
Despite being less striking feature-wise, this car was a lot harder to build than my previous similar project, the Team Kaapo F1 car. The slight curves on this one made it, at times, just painful to build, so hopefully I at least learned something from the whole thing :P. There's no engine or trunk, but otherwise all of the interior is there, albeit you'll have to break through a window or the roof to get in.
This car, much like everything I'm working on these days, was built on the Aliquam creative server.
