Hey there guys, OliverFrenchie here with another blog. This blog is going to be a little review/overview of the recent 12w34a Snapshot where I'll give my notorious insight into the new features being added.

Key- Praise | Criticism | Mixed

1. Item Frames

These items are crafted in the same way as paintings but by using leather instead of wool. This means its an easy and recognisable recipe to remember. This is also a brilliantly simple addition to the game that isn't destructive. Also provides ways to display your maps and clocks which has always been a popular request.

2. Cobblestone (and Mossy) Walls

Crafted in the same way as fences but with cobblestone (or mossy) instead of sticks. Again, easy and memorable recipe. The fact that they automatically create pillars on the end blocks and join up the blocks in between is lovely (reminds me of Age of Empires 3). Great new addition that'll certainly aid the builders amongst the community.

3. Flower Pots

A curious addition to the game. Crafted the same way as a bucket but with bricks instead of iron ingots (easy and memorable again!). I suppose amongst builders it'll be very popular for decorating but for the adventurers I don't think it really applies to them.

4. Corner Stairs

Finally (a lot of us are thinking!) they have added this feature. When plain old stairs are placed and a turn is made in placing them the corner stair will automatically change into a corner stair making clean bends in your stair pattern.

5. Minecraftia<->Nether ~ Mobs

In 1.3.2 Zombie Pigmen were given the ability to travel through nether portals into the overworld. In this snapshot, any mob can travel through the portal. Part of me realises that this will be very beneficial to Nether-Adventurers as they can transport their mobs into their Nether domain. Another part of me thinks that having Ghasts and Blazes come into your base can make things a bit cluttered.

6. Dyed Armour

They have now added the ability to die your Leather Armour when placing the piece of armour acompanied by any die into the crafting area. You can add as many dies as you want (to the Crafting Bench's space extent that is) and their are near-infinite amounts of colours you can choose to make. The default leather armour colour has also changed and to wash a coloured piece of leather armour all you need to do is right click a filled cauldron. A nifty simple addition to the game.

7. Wolves' Collars

A neat and simple addition to the game that allows you to colour tamed wolves' collars using dies (right click the dog).

8. New Crops

Potatoes, Baked Potatoes, Poisonous Potatoes, Carrots and Golden Carrots were added. Hmm... Not sure on this one. I don't think they are the right type of crops to start adding to the farming aspect of the game. Something far more simple like tomatoes could replace potatoes. This addition seems to me to have not had much thought put into it.

9. Wooden Button and Trapdoor

You can now craft Wooden Buttons (placing a wooden plank in any slot in the crafting area will create a wooden button) that are arrow sensitive. This is a very useful addition for mapmakers and redstoners alike. Trapdoors can now be placed on the top half of a block as well as the bottom half creating more space for builders to deal with.

10. Potion of Invisibility

This is an expensive potion to make so I doubt it'd be easy to use it in an overpowered way. Your nametag is hidden and mobs ignore you until you touch them when under the effects of the potion. Not sure on this one. I know that mapmakers will use these to their advantage.

11. New Boss ~ Wither (Not Much Info)

A new mob/boss has been added to the game by the name of a "Wither". There isn't much info (spawn is said to lie in the Sky Realm Temple?!) on it but we do know that they will chase and kill Villagers and any meat-bearing passive mob. The boss consists of three skulls that shoot out Cumwads that afflict a "Greg" potion effect on the affected entity. This effect acts the same as a poison potion. They can also break multiple blocks. I'm also not sure about this at all. Unless there is a concrete reason for this mob being in existence (like the Ender Dragon protects The End) then I see this Boss as being a rather pointless addition. It also means that there may be a continuation to the game following The End.

Conclusion~

A rather impressive set of additions to 1.4 (when it comes out) with some rather weird ones and some rather awesome ones. I still stand by my opinions in that Minecraft really is evolving into another game. All in all a great snapshot.
