Ok, so this is sort of a prototype story series that I want to start, do tell me what you think and leave me feedback :)
"For the love of god where is he" muttered Grayson, "if he's not here within 5 minutes, Io m off". Waiting in a cold downtown alley was not his idea of fun, he'd far rather be at home, with a bottle of whiskey or two for company, not here in an alley infested with low-life riff-raff. Then again, that was how the public viewed a man like him, buying and selling stolen objects to make a living. Still, who did make an honest living these days? In times like these, with almost continual food and energy shortages, everybody did a bit of dodgy business to get their next meal, or to buy clothes for their children. As he turned to head out of the alley, he noticed a man walking towards him, silhouetted against the garish orange street lights. Finally, thought Grayson, he took his time. As the man got within ten meters of Grayson, he called out with a low, harsh voice "Grayson, is that you?".
"Of course it is, Finch, who did you think it was?" Came the tense reply.
"Oh, nobody, nobody..." said the man, Finch. "Anyway, do you have the money?"
"Yes, do you have the goods?" muttered Grayson
"Yes"
"Good"
Finch was a lowly guard upon the UNSS Patriot, the first in a pioneering series of star-ships, whose job was to patrol the galaxy, "commandeering" resources from other planets, for use back on Earth. Finch made money on the side by stealing the odd gem or item of interest from the cargo hold, and selling it Grayson. Finch handed Grayson the "goods" wrapped in brown plastic, and Grayson, in return, handed Finch a small wad of cash.
"Thato s your payment, Finch"
"Just that?"
"Yes just that, youo re lucky I don't deduct from it for being late"
"Look, Io m sorry, we only got back to port a few hours ago, and a man has his needs" winked Finch
"This is your last chance Finch, next time you're late, I wono t be here, and neither will your money"
"I said I'm sorry, what more can I say, gray?"
"Nothing..., just don't be late, and don't call me gray"
And with that, Grayson turned and strode off, leaving a visibly angry Finch, and got into his car. Little did he know his life was about to change forever.
