Do I've been "investigating" the art of the minecraft advert. If you don't get what's wrong about them, I'm not talking about the adverts that run a well rounded server and get enough donations to buy paid advertizing... I'm talking about the ones who log on to OTHER PEOPLES servers and spam "JOIN SPAMSPAMSPAM.IMANADVERT.COM FOR FREE OP!" Yea, does that ring a bell? Well it sure does to me. I owned a failing server about a year or two ago and I felt blessed every time at least ONE player was online. I felt so good. But whenever I'd post it to PMC people would come on and spam IPs untill me or one of the other staff members bans them. It kept happening and I started to wonder, Is this the best way to handle the situation?

I have moderated many communities and on most of them, this is a huge problem the question is... How do you deal with it? Well first to prevent it you have to form a friendly community. Don't always like your only job on the server is to make sure everyone is in line and doing what they have to do. Thats the easiest way to prevent that. But if it does happen, how do you stop it correctly? First mute them for 15 minutes, then reassure the rest of the community (adverts usually always create chaos, making the community uncomfortable) then tell the advert the rules and tell him this is his first warning, if he doesn't leave when hes muted then he might have gotten the message. If he continues mute him for 30 minutes and repeat the same process. After his time is up, if he continues ban him. Then proceed to do whatever you do on your server.
