The dangers of mining are numerous. To make everything much less complicated, I'm going to just simply state them out in bold letters and bright colors:

• Dig a hole strait down and fall into Lava
  
• Have a creeper sneak up on you and scare the pixels off of you before blowing up
  
• Finding diamonds, then taking the wrong turn and fall into lava
  
• Get ambushed by ARCHERS FROM HELL (skeletons)
  
• Mine a block infront of you and see an enderman
  
• The groans of zombies become so annoying that you mute the game, then a creeper walks up behind you and you have no idea how you died
  
• Finally, dig strait up and have gravel, sand or a mob fall on you
  
  

Even so, you need to go mining to finish the game and be able to boast to your freinds that you completed the game with only a woddan sword and some TNT. So, some dangers about mining are perhaps inevitable. But, if you're careful, you can go mining without dieing once.
