Hello everyone, AnimeFanFTW here, and yes. I know. Cookie Clicker.

I'Ll bE ReVIEwIng ThE GaME thAT hAS TaKEN MaNY, mANy PeOPLe InTO tHE DaRK DeptHS Of ToRMEnt aND RePITItIvE CliCKiNg!!!

There's a couple of reasons why I'll be reviewing this game.
1. I've been playing this game for some time, and I feel like I need to give my honest opinion on this "special" game.
2. I must warn people who have never played this game to tread carefully when starting to play, because of how addicting it is.
3. The last time I made a game review blog was almost 2 years ago, when I reviewed Hotline Miami 1. This was a time where I had under 50 subscribers. Sheesh.

So, with that, let's begin!

THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Introduction and Facts
Cookie Clicker is a Javascript game released on August 10, 2013, by a french guy named Julien Thiennot, AKA: Orteil. To put it simply, the aim of the game is to click a giant cookie on the screen, earning you cookies, to spend on upgrades and buildings that make you more cookies. How very simple. The game is prasied around the net for being an addicting and simple game. According to an IGN Article, Cookie Clicker is regarded as "One of the few games to have played a major role in the establishment of the genre of idle gaming." And finally, Youtuber "The Living Tombstone", made a Cookie Clicker song, which not only has over 2.3 million views, but it also sounds awesome.

Story - N/A
Believe it or not, in a game called Cookie Clicker, there is a vague story. You are a nameless guy who one day decided to want to bake cookies. That's it. You enlist the help of things like Autoclickers, Grandma's, Farms, Factories and so on. However, the more you play, the more you find out that this game gets strangely bizarre, partically, the Grandma's. After a while, the grandma's start saying creepy stuff. It's all well and good, until you get an upgrade, called "One Mind", which I will go over in a minute. After getting this upgrade, it becomes clear that the Grandma's turn out to be the main antagonists of the game, looking evil, and weird worms called Wrinklers appear. The more you advance, the more upgrades you get, you see that this game gets a little dark, and a little creepy. But then, at the end of the day, that's all it is. A little creepy. And heck, for the Grandma's, I use the word "antagonists" extremely lightly, because in the end, those evil grandma's still give you more cookies in the end. So this is where I hit a dead-end: This game has next to no story. And the craziest thing? It benefits from it. If this game had a story, it wouldn't be fun. Because let's face it, you're only playing this game to get as much cookies as possible. So in the end, I had to give a score of nothing to the story, because it didn't need one.

Characters - N/A
Here is a list of characters right here:
-You, the nameless guy
-Alot of grandma's

That's it. We know nothing of the "character" you play, and I already explained the grandma's. So there. A score of nothing for the characters. Again, it goes back to the problem with the story: It doesn't NEED characters.

Gameplay - 7(?)/10
Finally, a score I can actually give...kinda!
Turns out this game as a ton of different things. First up, the giant cookie. You click it, you earn cookies. Get upgrades, you earn more per click. Ok, simple enough. The buildings you buy to earn more cookiesdo what they're supposed to do, upgrades make the buildings make more cookies. Again, simple. Now, this is where it gets complicated. First off, achievements. This game has a ton of achievements (and 10 secret shadow achievements) to unlock. They can be as simple as earning X amount of cookies, to little secrets and website trickery to unlock. Unlocking achievements unlocks more upgrades for you to buy. Getting more achievements also upgrades the milk, located under the giant cookie. Next, Golden Cookies. They appear randomly, giving bonusies, like a multiplier. Then there is the "One Mind" upgrade, which summons Wrinklers, which surround the cookie. Clicking these guys gives you 1.1X the amount of cookies they "steal". Heck, even restarting the game gives you cookies. Restarting the game gives you "Heavenly Chips", which increase your cookies per second. There is just so much variety for ways to earn cookies. I mean, yes, you can only click stuff, which can get incredably boring, and yes, getting the cookies for buying upgrades and buildings can get reeeeeally expensive, and yes, most of the time, you'll be idle, while you earn it, but that's why it's addicting. It's giving the illusion of progression. You feel like you're doing alot, when in fact, progression is very slow. It's boring, but fun. No other game has done this to me, and I got to give credit for that.

Graphics and Art Style - 7/10
This game looks simple, but nice. The icons and sprites look nice, the cookie looks appealing (yes, I have to point that out), and yeah. Not really much to say about it, sooooo.....yeah.

Sound - 1/10
There is no sound. Just the sound of you, clicking. Really? Not even ONE sound effect? Ah well. My advice, listen to music while playing. -___-

Enjoyment - 8/10
This game is so simple, yet so addicting. That feeling of having so many cookies is actually great. And the best thing is? I can not play the game for days, even months, and I can still advance. It's one of those games which sounds boring on paper, but plays really well once you start playing. Regardless of what rating I give it, if you are interested, go ahead and play. But be warned. Once you play, prepare to NEVER stop playing.

FINAL VERDICT - 5.5/10 - Average
