Hey guys! CreeperHugger814 here with a blog one of the most common disorders: autism.

Here are some facts.

What is autism?

"Pervasive developmental disorder of children, characterized by impaired communication, excessive rigidity, and emotional detachment." -Dictionary.com

Autism isn't a deformity or disease. It's a disorder you can be born with. That means that you don't need to be thinking "Oh God, I'm gonna get autism someday!". No, you have to be born with it to have it.

People with autism or Asperger syndrome may appear to behave unusually. There will generally be a reason for this: it can be an attempt to communicate, or a way of coping with a particular situation.

I actually have autism myself. If you see a kid drooling in a wheelchair that's being pushed by a teacher, don't make fun. That kid has some sort of disorder, and it's most likely a really big case of autism. I'm actually what I call "a pretty darn rare kid" because I have all sorts of things: photographic memory, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), and much more(yes, including autism)

Do not think this is a joke. I had to take a suicide risk assessment once, and I am pretty darn sure that I am trying my best to not be questioned about my suicidal thoughts or actions again.

Facts about autism

Autism now affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys.

Autism prevalence figures are growing.

Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the U.S.

Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average.

Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism.

Autism is treatable, but there is no cure.

Autism therapy sessions can cost over 150 dollars.

All of these facts are from autismspeaks.org.

Stories of people with autism

"As bad as things can get when you have autism, they can get better, too!"

Asperger syndrome: suddenly everything made sense

Becoming stronger for yesterday

Diagnosis: taking control

I can finally say I have success in employment

I was in an ideal situation. But suddenly it all changed.

On the transition journey keep your family close, you will need them

I will update this blog at certain times when I learn new things about autism. Do not report this, someone else with autism is probably a member of this site, too!

Summary: autistic kids need help. Give them help whenever you can.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I actually have Autism myself (Aspergers) as well as OCD and ADHD, so I feel I can definitely relate to this post. I love it when people do things like this to raise awareness! So pleased to meet someone else on the spectrum like myself! Again thanks for sharing this! 🙂

My brother has Autism.. He's pretty hard to handle but sometimes, He can be really fun and get excited over small things, Like minecraft. He will get very excited for the slightest things like for example: -I just got a dinosaur mod- Brother: OMG LILLINA LOOK UP HOW TO RIDE THAT THING!
I just deal with it and look it up anyways. this is a really nice way of putting autism in a summary. :)

While I appreciate the message of the blog, I can't really support autism speaks. It's a pretty bad organization. I was going to type up a comment about it, but I feel this video would work better. It has a ton of sources and information on why exactly the organization doesn't deserve support.

Sadly because it's so big it's essentially the go-to organization for autism for many people when it's hurting people with autism more than it helps them in many cases.

Though this is quite minor, the whole light-it-up-blue event? They chose blue because "Autism is 5 times more common in boys than girls." There are many things wrong with that. It's just erasing everyone who's not male that has the condition, enforcing negative stereotypes, and coming across as sexist in general.

I might also add that they created this horrible video. It entirely focuses on negative aspects of the condition. The parents themselves are talking about how hard their autistic children make their lives - in front of them. It may not seem like it, but many autistic children do understand what is going on around them in some level. Carly Fleischmann was nonverbal. She had never said anything or communicated. People didn't really think she was really "there", if you will. She learned to type eventually and can communicate through text without issue.

Anyway, sorry if that comes across as rude or aggressive, that was not my intent, my intent was to bring awareness to the bad side of autism speaks.
