As you enter your portal you immediately feel the stroke of hot air brush against your face. Lava filled the land and nothing could be seen apart from the colour red. You grab your pickaxe and begin to mine the weak netherrack beneath your feet. It was so hot, like fire. You dig deeper into the bowels of hell until you reach an opening. Nothing but a sea of lava. You glance around and before you turn around, your eye glimpses upon something: You see a strange structure made from red brick. From the netherrack you collected, you place block after block under your feet until you reach it. It was strange. It was like a fortress. Like it was protecting something... but what? You venture deeper into the hallways of hell until you come to another opening. Here you find a spawner. What was in it you just do not know. You approach it with ease, knowing that something will pop out at you any second now. As you get closer, it begins to light up. You know it's about to spawn something, but what? Suddenly, a flaming ghost like creature appears right in front of you. It was bodyless and had nothing but fiery rods for arms. It soared up in the warm air and before you knew it, fired fireballs as if it was a Ghast. You respawn back in your house once again.
Back when the Nether was unaccessable to players and new things were being created, Blazes were lovely little things who wouldn't even harm a Magma cube. Now you may ask "What happened to them then? Why do they wanna burn my face off?" Well, that I do not know. But I can tell you what their past was like!
Many updates ago, when the world was still in development and the Nether wasn't known to players, Notch was just finishing off a code which he had implemented into the game and that was going to be released in the new update. This update was the Nether. In the Nether were all kinds of mobs! But there was one that stood out: The Blaze. The Blazes were a happy bunch and would spread joy around the Nether. But Notch did not like this idea. He said it was a bug. He said that the Nether was meant to be a hellish place with no joy at all! He cast the Blazes into spawners where they were forced to attack players. They didn't want to, but it was the only way they would live.
Now every time you go into the Nether and find a Blaze spawner, think about how lovely they really were.
