Failing to connect to Servers

Time after time, and IP address after IP address... I get one message that comes up now when trying to connect to multiplayer on Minecraft. The message reads...

" Failed to connect to the server

Operation timed out"

This message is annoying...

Anyone that can help with this problem? Using Minecraft on a Mac Desktop.
