Well, by now everyone's heard about fake texture packs. They look nice, you download them, and your computer is infected with a virus. This is a horrible thing to happen, and it's causing everyone to be a bit paranoid about texture packs on this site. However, there's a few red flags that will give away fake packs, such as:
The uploader is only a level 1 member, and joined a few days ago.
There are no comments. (Scammers usually delete all comments on a fake pack)
The description of the pack is very short, and often only 1 or 2 words.
The download link is a strange site. NEVER do a survey or download any strange content, even it is says you have to.
The picture depicts shading that is impossible in Minecraft; if it doesn't look like Minecraft, it probably isn't. Just like real life, if it looks too good to be true, it is.
Using this little list of giveaways can really help you separate the truth from the lies, but still, not everyone knows to do this. So HOW can we prevent other people from downloading these scams? First step is comment, telling everyone how dangerous the pack is. Even though they will probably remove the comment, this will get people's attention for a little while. Second step is reporting the pack. This content NEEDS to be taken down, and it's your responsibility to tell the moderators about it.
I hope that this message will save someone from the scams that are out there in the Texture Packs section, but it's up to you to take caution. ALWAYS keep the five points I gave above in mind when looking at a texture pack.
