Hi guys, I'm Greytopher and I'm here to talk about flagging, and when flagging someone for a unreliable cause is irritating to both players and Moderators alike.

And the haters begin...

(BTW, these are real quotes from real players I've gotten on PMC through my blogs)

"MOST PEEPS JUST DIAMOND THIS BLOG CAUSE ITS GOT ALOT OF WRITTING"

"THIS IS A LOAD OF FU%%^^$ WHY DO PUT THIS ON PMC AND STOP SHOWING UR FEELINGS TO THE WHOLE WORLD CAUSE MOST PEEPS DONT EVEN GIVE A SH^%!!!!!!"

"This is a minecraft website and people expect to find texturepacks and skins and projects on this. Not some information about bullying or depressions.
You should probably find a better side to post these blogs."

Why do you flag for no reason?

I get stuff like this all the time, and these are people who I know don't fully read my content. They don't see the aspect of what I'm writing about, and how it relates to everything (and for some people who don't know, everything includes Minecraft). I try to make a difference by letting my audience feel included in my writing, and all I get is people saying it isn't related to Minecraft.

Then it's flagged.

Flagged? Why, for what reason? Because you don't like me as a person? Because you're jealous of my writing skill and how it can produce fortune? Because you think it's not related to Minecraft?

These are not valid reasons to flag a perfectly good post. Now, I am... disappointed at those who flag posts without probable cause. It really makes us (the producers of these fine products) feel like we're not needed in this community of Minecraft, and that we can't express our feelings of what we think is right without getting flagged by some guy who thinks he can really do what ever he wants. It irks me to my very core to know that someone flags this because they don't like it. If they read it and don't like it, flagging or commenting on how bad you think it is doesn't do any justice. If you don't like it to a point where it's somehow offending, flagging is the perfect choice for you. Other then that, if it's not Minecraft related, there is not rule in the Blogging Rules or in the Terms of Use that says I cannot post things that are non Minecraft related.

It annoys Moderators, too...

Flagging also results to the hands of the Moderators of this lovely site. For those new playes, the Moderators of this site keeps the website clean and fresh from any innapropiate or mis-used content. So, when you flag content, a Moderator looks at the flagged submission. They review it if it needs to be taken off the website or not, and if not, then your flagging reason is invalid. I'm not talking through the Moderators as a whole right now, but I'm guessing that maybe a little over 70% of the flagged content isn't even good. Good as in the flag reason is invalid or just plain stupid.

They have to take times out of their lives to clean up the website, and what they have to resort to is reading through the 700+ notifications eatch day, and only to figure out that we're flagging content that only happens to be because we don't like that person, or we got banned from that server for griefing and we're complaining, or some kind of crap like that. Personally as a player, I'm fed up with stuff like this. Flagging content for no reason doesn't make you a better player, it only worsens your chance of becoming a Moderator (if you want it). The reason is, if I haven't expressed it enough, flagging more content without evidence of it being "flaggable" is just stupid.

Flagging Properly...

When you're flagging someone, be sure to have the right reason. If it's stolen content from PMC, be sure to link back to the original on the flagged report. When flagging stuff that's innapropiate or anything else, be sure to leave a great, detailed description of how it's offensive in any way. The more detail/work you put into reporting, the better known you get. The better the report, the better the website.

Tl;dr?

Don't flag stuff unless it's a really good reason. Flagging stuff because you don't like that particular person, or because you thought the post wasn't Minecraft related is just... stupid. Don't do that. Moderators get mad when you do. When they get mad, they get mad.

I hope you all enjoyed! I will not be writing another blog for another month because I'm going to camp, and leaving this Sunday! I'll be back to writing August 16th!

I was looking through this for some points to criticism, however, there is not that much actual content to argue against. However, i did find some parts. First off, the beginning of the post with the "haters". It is difficult to see its point in an argumentative post, further, while the third quote is somewhat, narrowminded, i wouldn't call it "hating". It is simply a statement of his opinion, however misguided, further, it is done in a fairly reasonable manner. The second point i wanted to discuss is your statistics regarding flagging. The 70% one is as you said, a guess, however, is the 700+ notifications something you made up on the spot or an actual researched statistic? If it is, feel free to actually provide some evidence for that.
