Ok, lets say you're browsing around on PMC, and you find this really cool forum post. You decide to post on it, the original poster replies back, and you too really hit it off. Eventually the thread dies away, and you have posted in more threads and you can't seem to find that one anymore anyway.
You just lost a friend.
Now this same idea applies to chat. You meet somebody and you think they are cool, and you would like to meet them again. However, chance isn't always so luck and you're more then likely to never meet that person again.
What?
What can you do to remedy this? Well I'm glad you asked, because I have an idea. We should implement a friend system here in PMC. It would be an intuitive system where you can add your friends. You can message them to check out your new works, invite them to PMC chat, or just hang out with them. It would be a great new system that could include many features, and could always be updated.
Why?
I know what many of you are thinking right now; Why not just subscribe to them. Well, that creates two problems. One, you might not care about this person's work, and vice versa. To subscribe to someone means (or at least it should mean) that you like their work and support them in making more. So, you are in a dilemma of having to their crappy stuff come through your subscription activity or have to leave the person in the dust. Second: It feels like a commitment when subscrbing to someone, whereas having a making them one of your 'friends' feels so much easier.
Lets take an example, Go on Facebook and see how many friends you have on there. I imagine you have a fairly decent number, most likely in the hundreds. Now, assuming you have a Youtube as well go there. How many subscriptions do you have? Probably no more the 20. Now do you see my point, it is easy to friend everyone and their mother, but having to subscribe to them that's another story.
Thanks for reading my blog, Diamond if you like it, favorite if it is your favorite, or you know just poop on it. That is cool too. If you disagree please feel free to post it in the comments section below.
PostScript: For some reason I feel like if this does well that it will be widely argued and I will have to post a response to my own blog.
UPDATE: It has come to my attention that there is a very basic friends system implemented on the forums. However, for the shocking number of people (including myself) that did not know this existed, it needs to be advertised more. It also needs an overhaul, and many features added. However (so many howevers) this is a step in the right direction. so we should support it and bug Paril to upgrade it XD Here is the link: http://www.planetminecraft.com/forums/ucp.php?i=168

Nicely written blog, however the topic is.. somewhat useless. I mean, I see where you were going in context, but it seems like you put in a situation where the only way of contacting someone is through the forums, which is NOT the case at all. That's why you have PM's, so you can talk to the person/ask them questions without anyone else barging in and looking.
My suggestion would be to try and blog about a tutorial, or perhaps maybe write about issues in Minecraft, such as possible glitches, increase in spammers/hackers/etc. But this topic isn't really appealing in the least.
Im such a nerd....

Also, I get the point of the blog. I friend system would be a cool addition to PMC, but I think that a proper crediting system would be more important for projects. I mean I word around 50-50% with my friend on our projects and since he is the one uploading them, I only appear in 'additional credits'. This basicly means that he did most of the work and I helped out. We need something where you can list the people working on it and the role they did. Though this is kinda off-topic.
Your right about the project thing, unless the specifically mention someone in the title I don't even read the additional credit. A good example of this is The survival games, Varide did a lot of work no lie, but he had several helpers in his project. Who gets all the credit, Varide.
