So I recently decided to pay a little more attention to the 16-bit big foot other wise known as Herobrine. Usually, I just igonre anything with the word "Herobrine" in it, or that has a picture of the token Steve with no iris. But, I did stumble upon something rather interesting...and worth sharing. I'm not sure if someone else has found this and posted this, so excuse me if it has been shared.
MCBans, a plugin that allows server to communicate to see whose been banned from where, gave me this today. I got bored, and though "Oh, to hell with it, I'm curious". So I typed that oh-so-handy command /lookup herobrine. And I got 61 bans! Three of which were global, but the number was still rather high. Considering that: A)Some staff members of other servers do not include the "g" needed when banning players, and B)Not all server have MCBans, having 61 recorded bans does show something. The result from the command will be below.
But, after looking through that list, and reading some of the ban reasons, I came to my conclusion: Herobrine is real. But not as coding, or as script in the game, but more like...well, anyone reading this. Both are living people, behind a screen. Herobrine is also the same. He just happens to be the worlds most notrious griefer, plan and simple.
And with that said, my feet have been in the social pool otherwise known as Herobrine. And now, I will get out of said pool, and go back to making some skins. But, heres the results of that search I promised. You'll have to excuse the random console crap, as I'm too lazy to go through and get rid of it all:

I refuse to believe that Herobrine is scripting. From all the stories all over the place, the only way Herobrine can do what we does in a game such as this is if he's a player. This reasoning, unarguably, works. For the most part..until you get tales of the Herobrine player not showing up in the list. I'm not saying you wrong! Nor am I saying I'm right. But it is possible that there was a fluke in the system at the time you looked, and the Herobrine player wasn't on the list, or he somehow knows how to keep himself off that list.
And heres the reason I laugh:
We either get people saying that someone made an NPC that screws with people, or you get people saying we have an awesome hacker/griefer roaming the servers. I personally believe the latter, but *shrug* It's big foot. The myth will always live on.
