If you didn't already know, SOPA stands for Stop Online Piracy Act. It is essentially a U.S bill that is trying to allow media companies or individuals the right to remove websites containing their copyrighted material. Some people may think this is a good idea as piracy as a very common crime committed by millions of people but most web users hate the idea. Almost all of the most visited websites contain unlawfully distributed material. Youtube has a lot of music that has not had permission for release, twitter and facebook have lots of sharing of links to pirate sites and wikipedia is giving out free information that could be affecting people that first had the information and wanted to sell it. Along with SOPA and PIPA will come the removal or possibly a pay-to-use service on these sites. The payment will be given to the individuals affected by the piracy. Minecraft ( Mojang ) are against it too. A lot of websites have had a 24 hour blackout today [ Wednesday 18th January 2012 ] to protest against this. Are you fore or against it?
