I've made a new technique that i used a bit for my skins while playing adventure craft.
The key,
It describes me completely.
The word,
Randomness.
Yep.
Randomness.
Its easy as that.
How?
Here's how.
EXAMPLE BLOCK IS DIRT:
Start by getting a plain brown and fill the dirt block with it so its one colour,
then get a dark shade of brown,
make bubbles,
then make it ten thingys lighter and place random dots in the bubbles,
Never, and I mean never, make 2 of the same shade next to each other, diagonal is fine, but if its connected to another of itself it looks plain ugly.
Then make it 5 lighter, place more dots,
then make it 5 lighter, place more dots.
Do this until theres no blank spots.
Congratulate yourself that you've made a cool texture.
The picture at the top is my finished result.
Hope this helped!
I'm using this technique for my new texture pack, I don't know what its gonna be called, there's a picture of the dirt block I made, please tell me what i should name it!

I feel paint.net is better since 1 gimp load = long 2 gimp brushes are too complicated for novice users

Just wondering, Im using Gimp 2, and should I save the files as .png or .xcf? When I do .png it messes up ALL the blocks, and when I do .xcf, nothing changes. What should I do?

Save it as a .png. Minecraft doesn't read .xcf files. I'm a GIMP user too, and saving things as .PNG files works fine for me.

Turns out I had to go to File > Export and then export it as a .png file. Thanks though

Call it Crackcraft, because it has cracks in it, the dirt does, but also make the sugarcane look like crack :P
