Hello,

Minecraft servers are the heart of the community. In order to run one correctly you should follow these steps.

Step1: Prepare, don't rush your world or server just to make it going. You need to spend time on it. For example a rushed server's spawn would be bad. Spawns are usually what people judge servers by so make sure it is a good one.

Step2: Rules, make sure your rules are very good and fair! People don't like servers that are unfair. For example a rule that states "Donators can grief, not regular people." would make many players not play on your server.

Step3: Admins and Mods, make sure you have lots of admins and mods on your server. This way your server is being protected most of the day. Make sure you DON'T GIVE OP, ADMIN, OR MOD STATUS TO ANY MEMBER! This is extremely important! If you do they might literally destroy your server! Make sure they are dedicated users and NEVER give it to someone who immediately asks for admin. Also have all your admins and mods friendly. Users will not play on a server with bad admins and/or mods.

Step4: Plugins, they are essential. To run plugins use CraftBukkit, found at the bukkit forums. Simply drag and drop plugins into the plugins folder after installing CraftBukkit. Make sure to have fun plugins, administrative plugins, and anti-griefing plugins to protect your server. Players love a variety of plugins to use!

Step5: Advertising, When advertising use sites like Planet Minecraft, the Minecraft Forums, and other various server lists.

These are the basic steps to make a great server! If I missed something comment what I missed and i'll add it in. Or i'll just do it myself! Thank you for reading my blog. TOTALLY agree on Step 3.
So many times Ive seen people on here or any a server asking for a staff role, when they have either a) just joined the server or b) not even joined it!
I dont understand the mentality of people asking for a staff position that have not either earned it or contributed a single thing to that server or community.

I guess again thats the world we live in today, people want something for nothing (ie not putting in anything towards the "rewards")

It really bugs me too see so many people keep asking for admin or op. Usually they say something like "I'm from Planet Minecraft! Give me op so I can review your server!"

I think we should ban anyone under the age of 25 from the internet :p
That would stop all these problems!! hahaha...

Also, in your example, dont those people realise that PMC does NOT review servers? How stupid are they?
