Hey, if you're reading this, you're probably a new Minecrafter, looking for some help. I'll provide a simple, and easy-to-use lowdown of how to make it through your first day in the big world.
First off, you'll probably want to get the controls down, if you already haven't. And even if you have, it never hurts to brush up on a few things. I won't be covering much of anything as far as basic controls, more so what to do in-game.
OK, so you've just spawned in your newly-created world. The sun is shining, the water is cool and soothing, but you're just there standing around. After you think you got the controls down, the first thing you'll want to do is just look around. Get a basic feel of where you are. Although it's not required, you may want to figure out what biome you are in, as it will help you out later on.
There is around 15 different kinds of basic biomes. I'll list the basic 5 biomes, and give a pretty simple description of the place. I'll start off with the most common of all the biomes, the Plains.
The Plains, are as they sound. They are mostly consisted of Grass, and Dirt. There won't be any tree's here of any kind, but you may run into some shrubs, or Tall Grass. The Plains are a fairly ideal place for one to live, despite the lack of tree's. It has a steady supply of food, mostly being Cows, and Pigs. With the relatively flat-terrain, it's easy to build a house, and to preform other things, such as farming, hunting, and more. However, the Plains is a place where I would suggest staying, only for as long as you needed, as the lack of tree's gets frustrating at times, and can make getting your basic starting tools a challenge. Although if one was fond of the Plains, you can take sapling from other tree's (by breaking the leaves on the tree, you have a chance of a sapling popping out) and plant them on the Plains. Now onto the Desert, the more plain, and barren biome.
There's not a whole lot to explain when it comes to the Deset biome. It's mostly consisted of Sand, Cactus, and more sand. To be honest, I would not reccomend living in the desert when you start out, let alone at all. Getting simple resources such as wood, food, and water is hard to do. Even when you do get the chance of finding a source of food, it will deminish fast, as not much lives in the Desert. Again, I do not suggest picking this biome for your home. Now to the Jungle.
Now, the Jungle is honestly, in my opinion, one of the best places to live. There is a large surplus of harvestable wood, cows, pigs, and occasionally usable fishing resources scatter all across the biome. One of the downsides, however is possibly getting lost, which is easy as the Jungle is expansive and is pretty easy to get lost in. If you have a good memory, or tend not to travel very long distances that often, you should be fine.
Unto the Tundra now. The Tundra is a weird place as far as how it acts generally. Like many other forests, the Tundra has a fair amount of wood, and a fair amount of animals/mobs to hunt. Although one of the more..distracting parts of living in the Tundra is the constant snow storms, which don't really effect your gameplay very much, but can possibly hinder your preformance doing things. As said though, it's mostly just annoying more so than something that gets in the way.
Now, by now you probably have an idea of which biome you want to live in, or a few depending if you wish to move. Either way, we'll now continue on to the basics of surviving in these biomes. The simpliest thing to do, is to build a house. Let's get started on that.
The most efficent way of building your first house is to use a easy-to-obtain material. Wood, in this case will do. A single piece of wood will give you four wooden planks, or wooden blocks you can use for building. Although you don't have to use the wood for planks, it's reccomended that you do as it's much quicker, and is just as good without not using it. Getting a house built before nightfall is your objective anyhow.
So as said, continue to collect pieces of wood off tree's, (or if you spawned in a biome without tree's, dirt and or sand will work as well.) and use them to build your house. The basic formation for a standard house is 5 blocks high, 8 blocks wide. So while it's not required you build it this way; it is entirely up to you, it's probably best that you do. Here's a picture if you are not quite sure how it should look like. Keep in mind, this is a rough example.
(I did say "basic" didn't I? Don't expect a fancy house your first day..)
At this point, you probably have a fairly good house built, and depending on how long you took, it's either night, or soon to be so. Or if you grasped the concept quickly, it could be mid-day. If is is mid-day, the best thing to do is to go hunting. No matter what biome you spawn in, there will be some source of food. In most cases, this is meat from chickens, cows, and pigs. You can either use your bare fists to do the work, or you can craft a weapon to make it quicker and easier. To craft a Wooden Sword, you will of had to of had a Crafting Table made. Making one is simple, you just fill four spaces in your inventory with Wooden Planks, it should like a square. After making that, you're set to make a Wooden Sword. To make one, using the Crafting Table, place a Stick (made by placing two wooden planks one atop the other) on the bottom of the three rows, and two Wooden Planks one space above it, then another above that.
Or, if you're too lazy to read this, or maybe you just don't get it, here's a picture:
Congrats, you just made a sword! Hunting will be easier now, and defending yourself, but we'll get to that. Anyways, if you didn't get done by the time it's night, just enter you're house and wait until morning. The reason for this is because of hostile creatures, or offically called mobs, will try and kill your player. Now, odds are you probably don't want this to happen. On the off chance you are against those odds, by all means go outside your house and embrace one of these creatures.
But still going on the whole thing of "not dying" remain in your house. You may be able to take one or two of these mobs, but in the end you'll get overwhelmed by them. Just wait it out until day, and then leave your house. However there is a certain mob that will persue you and easily kill you, called a "Creeper". They're green, and highly explosive. I'd describe it, but I think it's best I just show you.
Here's a picture of that guy:
Pretty cute eh? Yeah, well as you can see, they roam throughout the day and night. Like I said, they will explode and inflict a high amount of damage on the player when they get close enough. They aren't overly-common, so you don't need to constantly check around you, rest assured.
After you survive your first night, you can then proceed to add to your house, and improve overall on your playing experience. I'd talk about that, but this tutorial made how to survive your first night. And I think I provided a "OK" description for that.
Anyways, that's all you'll need to survive your first night. Keep checking back from my sequal, 'How to Live a Easy Life'..I think that's what it will be called..

But yeah, I see what you're getting at here, but I can't quite figure this one thing out. And that is the AI, never did really compare it between versions and all, guess it'd be worth noting, seeing as this was made in the time that the AI was in fact changed if I'm not mistaken.
Thanks though m8.
now its four
