Firstly, I would like to point out that I AM NOT A PERFECT WRITER. Yes, I study history and English Literature and enjoy writing essays. But Io m not saying Io m the most experienced person in the best position to write this blog; I just noticed a great deal of serious mistakes that people are making. If I know anything, I want to share it in order to to help people out.
1) Picture
Every blog needs eye-catching artwork. This is Minecraft so it has to be colourful. It should be a o fullo picture: the wording (if you choose to put your title on) should surround the main object in the image. The object should be linked to the article, but can also be funny. Make sure it stands out. In 5 minutes, you can throw together an image that grabs peopleso attention, so just take a little time and effort, and youo ll be rewarded with more views.
2)Content
Apart from pointing out the obviouso that it has to be worth readingo Io d point out that it must have some substance. Readers are left with a sense of disappointment if you dono t inform them, or make them laugh, or make some valid points, or write something interesting. If you make it long enough, or have enough substance, theyo ll wish they hadno t clicked on it. Ito s barely even a blog if under 200 words.
3)Structure
Whatever youo re writing, use the basic skills youo ve picked up in school. Remember what you learned in the few moments you wereno t snoring on the desk. Incorporate an introduction and a solid conclusion at the end, where you come to a strong personal judgement. It might help to have some sense of debate or argument in the text. By the end you should have taken the reader on a journey, having solved these debates. This might not apply to what youo re writing, but just think about it. Finally, your writing could be split into small sections to show clearly when you finish making a point. A long wall of text is going to bore people.
4)Language
Incorrect grammar and punctuation are common mistakes. They discredit your work, and show a lack of thought and dedication. Always be careful and check for errors; otherwise dono t bother writing it. Even not-completely-obvious errors like: o ...some how they always get pop reel...o and o ...getting a good idea is very essential...o areno t great.
Other common mistakes include too much filler language. Filler language consists of words such as o likeo o actuallyo o I think thato o and stuffo . Keep it snappy, formal and to the point. It may be tempting to speak as you do in real life but no professional writer/journalist ever does this, of course. Texting language, or whatever the kids use nowadays, is unacceptable. o Minecraft iz a gud game, u know?o No no no no no. No. So again, just be careful...and stuff.
Furthermore, NEVER copying someone elseo s blog/idea is a must. Use PMC for inspiration, but make all of your submissions original. And I mean o allo . You can use the chat lounge to beg for some poor souls to view your content, and you can advertise using your forum signature. And thato s about it. I honestly wish all you bloggers the best of luck. On Planet Minecraft, and in real life, all you need to do is use the best weapon at your disposal: your mind.
