Notes: Uhh my subs said yes so this is here now ;-;
He was weightless. His limbs no longer dragged down by gravity, no longer chained to the despicable thing we call Earth.
It was freedom, freedom from the bonds of physics that clamped down on his body and forced him below, consuming his limbs and dragging him away from the freedom his heart so desires.
No more weights on his arms, on his legs, on his wings.
He was floating. No, he was flying. Wind whipped past his face and played with his hair, it caressed his cheek and whispered in his ear. I've missed you, young one. Her chimes crooned.
How does it feel to be in the air?
His wings flapped, the breeze trickling between feathers and smoothing them in place, a cold but loving hand carding through grays and browns. He was finally flying, finally finally free-
And then he was falling. Wind that once cooed playfully now zipped past his ears.
For he was Icarus, and Icarus was never meant to fly so close to the sun.
The sun whispered her apologies, her normally blissful face turned ashen. The wind cried out in alarm, hands reaching for a last gentle touch. Wispy clouds broke into frantic chatter, stretching out their arms to catch him. But, alas, he fell through.
He smiled at the sun's concerns, assuring softly that it was not her fault. He bid goodbye to the wind, extracting a promise to visit him one windy day; both knowing he would never return. His heart warmed at the clouds' efforts, his hand outstretched as a misty tendril wrapped around his finger, a panicked last attempt at keeping him afloat that was soon ripped away by the chains that held fast.
For he was Icarus, and Icarus was destined to fall.
He may have the blood of a flyer, a heart that longed for the birds, but soaring was a dream that never meant to be his. No one can deny fate for long.
For he was Icarus, and so he fell.
The oceans received him, lapping water bubbling frantically at his arrival.
Ah, the waters did not know. They did not know of his name, of the curse that bound him to the Earth. They simply knew him as the Wind’s child, the Clouds’ brother. And a child of the air should fly, should he not?
The waves attempted to bring him up, up to what they mistakenly deemed as his rightful place. They could not fight the chains, for they were the chains of fate. Even the mighty sea could not shatter them.
For he was Icarus, and Icarus must fall, and he must fall to the bottom.
The clouds never cried harder.
—
He opened his eyes, swirling brown glazed with drowsiness.
Strangely enough, he felt none of the panic the dream usually brought. None of the regret or hate. The peace of the dream carried over, the bitter smile knowing it was always meant to be.
He stared at the ceiling as tears wetted his pillow. Dreams shattered for the millionth time.
For he was Icarus, and Icarus was never meant to soar.
Notes: I hope someone liked that heh. The goal was to be descriptive i think? i actually have no idea what my goal was with this. here's the link to the photo
